well, it does have the twin turbo while the G35 and the Z don't :)

the RB is dead.

In fact, the VQ is better than hte RB series in all ways.

its lighter, physically smaller, just as stout, emissions friendly, and cheaper to prduce given there are so many out there already.

whats not to love about it?

Also some fun facts, did you guys know the Lexus/Toyota 4.5L V8 (and its 4L counterpart) are physically smaller and lighter than the Lexus I6?? Its actualy smaller than a Chevy small-block too.

Funny, I like the new body styles better. They're still a little weird though.

also,

Heh. Man, wish I owned one. You see em around here once in awhile. There's an R32 and a few R34's I think.

That R34 was seriously fun to drive. You look stupid going through the drive through unless you have plastic-man arms, but it's worth it.

I can't wait to drive the Lotus Elise... completely the other end of the spectrum. :) That's going to be fun.

M_I: a couple things - one, it would seem the RB would be just by virtue of being an inline six, better harmonically balanced, and smoother...is this not the case?

Also, when you say physically smaller, how do you mean? 3.0 liters is 3.0 liters - how can a 4.5L V8 be smaller?

IIRC, aren't Toyota's V8's 4.3 and 4.7 liters respectively?

Inline 6's are balanced, correct, and tend to rev better than their v6 counterparts, both the 60 degree (ideal balance) and the 90 degree.

The 4.3L Toyota V8 is aluminum and very very compact for its displacement. The actual size of the engine is smaller than the 3.0L i6 in the supra, as well as lighter.

The engine may displace a certain amount, but the physical arangement of the cylinders can make an impact on how much space the engine actually takes up. A inline 6 requires a longer engine bay and parts to support it while a V6 can drasticaly reduce the length of the front end of the car.

Well the inline 6 is smoother, but I mean VQ is just as smooth, or rather very close to being that smooth. What I mean to say is that you won't really notice a difference in driving.

By smaller, I mean physically. While the combustion chambers may be larger, the actual engine and packaging of it is much more compact.

Same thing applies to the Chevy small block (350ci V8). Why do you think it's in almost every car from a Miata to an RX7 (any gen) to a Datsun 510 to a 240Z to a friggin chainsaw (I saw a video of a SBC powered chainsaw).

On the other end of hte spectrum, the V8 in the S4 is bloody huge.

NFS4: I meant 4.3L & 4L, not the 4.5L..my mistake. The 4L is the older gen of hte 4.3L.

I do not know about the 4.7L used in the trucks...is it just a bored out 4.3L or is there more to it than that?

From a '99 Edmunds first drive of the Tundra:

The most important part of the Tundra's recipe rests under the hood. The new Toyota pickup has a lion's heart, thanks to the 4.7-liter, i-Force V8 engine that is found in all but the most basic Tundras. The Tundra's i-Force engine features a dual-overhead-cam design, a first for this segment, with a cast-iron block and aluminum alloy heads. Those taking a closer look might realize that this engine is the same one used in the Toyota Land Cruiser and Lexus LX470 sport-utility vehicles, which is a derivative of the all-aluminum, 4.0-liter V8 first seen in the Lexus LS400

ohh.h.... APEX = PIMP^2, !! ! ! :)
you like the Elise too? shtizo... I can't wait for that to come out too.... only if I had 38,000.

btw: the 4.5L was the smaller-stroke version of the current 4.7L used on Trucks and SUV, it is different from the 4.0 (older) and 4.3L which are used on the sedans and coupes like SC, LS, and the up-coming IS. (IS430? yes indeed. and holy cow it is a V8 on a compact).

some company packed a twin-turbo 4.3 V8 on a gutted Celica for drag, that thing ran like 10 seconds in 1/4 mile.

I think it looks hot. It has everything I like about the G35, and the one thing I absolutely cannot stand; the rear. Imo the rear on the GTR is more like the Z with a Ferrari disposition of the tail lights.
