So, I got a BFG 7800GS OC to replace my 9600 All-in-Wonder...did a by the book install (driver cleaning and such), but I get no POST with the new card. I have power (lights and fans and such), but thats it...no beep, no nothing. Previous card works find on reinstall.

Just wondering what might account for this, or what else I ought to be trying. System specs are as follows:

AMD 64 3700+
Asrock 939Dual-Sata2 (w/latest BIOS update)
2 Gigs Ram
Windows XP
Antec Trio 650w psu

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

A follow-up question...could this be a power supply issue? My psu has 3 12v rails at 19A...the new card says it needs 20A. Would that account for the failure to post?

Uh, without looking it up, doesn't card require a power plug, like you'd plug into the back of your cd or dvd rom?

Edit: I did look it up, and it does. Plug it in, buddy. :)

If you have done this, then maybe you got a DOA card. :(

Yes, I did have it plugged in...while closer than I would like, I'm not TOTALLY ignorant :)
The light and fan on the card run, for whatever that's worth.

Anyway, I've done about all I know how to do, from the simple (reseating) to things like cleaing CMOS and such. The amps requirement is the only other thing that even sounded like a possible problem, but I don't really know.

Maybe BFG will let me off hold or reply to email one of these days.

Well, sorry if I implied that you might have made a n00b move. We get all levels of experience and expertise here. Does your motherboard have onboard video, as well?

Well, I'm definitely at the low end of the experience scale, so I certainly don't take offense at that assumption...
Anyway, there's no onboard video on this motherboard.

Ok, well this might be a long shot, but try puting the 9600 back in, then go into the bios and make sure your primary vga is your AGP. Shut it down, and try once more.

Beyond that, I think the card is bad. I doubt 1 amp would cause a failure to post, and if it effects anything at all, it would be under heavy PSU load. If you can up the AGP voltage by .10 in the bios, you might do that too, while you're experimenting. Wish I have more answers for you, but when it all boils down, hardware either works, or it doesn't.

Finally, find a guinea pig box, and put your card in it. If still no workie, then it's definitely the card.
