New graphics card needed

Hi all,
Recently my ATI Radeon HD5970 died. I want to buy a new GPU that would last for quite a while and will even be in a future rig I'll build.
My current rig is:
Processor: Intel Core i7 860 @ 2.80 GHz
Mainboard: GIGABYTE GA-P55A-UD5
and I have a seasonic 750W power supply.

I'm thinking about the new GeForce GTX970. I'm aware that my motherboard is only PCI-E2.0 compatible and the new GPUs are PCI-E3.0 and have backwards compatibility.
-How much you think this will affect the performance of the GTX970?
-Will the processor create a bottleneck? If it will, how much will it affect the performance? And to what level should I OC the processor?
-Do you think I'm making here a mistake and I should buy a different card?

Anything will be appreciated. Thanks.

The GTX 970 makes sense for you. With a full x16 slot to work with, the actual performance difference between PCIe 2.0 and PCIe 3.0 will be negligible (<1%). The i7 860 will be a limitation in CPU-heavy games, but you'll get a nice bump in GPU-limited ones.
