I set the limit for my videocard purchase to 100$ with tax.
www.canadacomputers.com is by far the cheapest here and I can save on shipping because there are 3 of them here in Ottawa.

My system:
Intel E5400
2GB Mushkin silverline DDR2 800mhz
X850 XT
Thermaltake V9 BE case
Coolermaster 600 watt

Heres a direct link to the graphics cards

ATI Cards
http://canadacomputers.com/index.php...np8u4qhqp2ltk6

Nvidia Cards
http://canadacomputers.com/index.php?cPath=43_557_559

What would be the best card to purchase within that price range?

Edit: I should mention I'd like to play Badcompany 2, MOH, CSS, but mostly older games as 99% of new ones suck.

for the games you intend on playing in your original post? i'd say it's more than adequate so long as you don't play in 1080P maxed out everything on any newer games you may get in to.

I may go for the 250 then, my monitors max res. is 1440x900

What kind of FPS will i be looking at with my rig at 1440x900 on BC2?

might give you a little more performance over the 450 (but no Dx11)

I buy local, and DX11 is something i want to make sure is there even if it performs slightly less than the card you listed.

I've been burnt enough by Newegg and their BS. Canada computers I can talk to the techs in person and pick it up in person. plus better prices than newegg 90% of the time.

if you can get better pricing grats to you, you asked for ~$100 card. that fits your budget with no rebates, if you are so confident in your local supplier go there and see if you can get a price match, or see if they have any sales.

They price match Plus 15% usually, but I was wondering what everyone thinks is the best price/performance card out there under 100$ for my specific needs.

why does Dx11 fall into your "needs"? as you said you wont be playing newer games and a card at that level wont be playing any Dx11 games very well anyway.

Just a reminder, BC2 runs much better on a quad core, don't exspect much.

A gts450 or 5750 is perfect for you.

Edit: just seen the gts250 deal, thats good also.

depends on the game and resolution and your cpu and your detail settings

Thanks man, helpful link. Looks like I should be ok stock though, those are lower performance processors with the exception of the x4 are they not?

No they are about the same. :(

Even at 1600x1050 the gts450 will give you about 60fps but this is with a fast quad core. Like I said, overclock the cpu with that game. Its easy, go over to the cpu section and ask for help.

A Phenom X2 at 3.0 will probably out perform your stock e5400. Either way the best you can do is a 250/450 so buy one and give it a shot. Let us know your results.

We say you should overclock your CPU because it should be pretty effortless to get to ~3.4, which would definitely give a good performance increase for that particular game.

Yeah I've done it before, I had a conroe E6600 at 3.6ghz but I'm running a stock fan and a garbage motherboard I got off kijiji(like craigslist).

After buying cooling and motherboard I might be better off selling my CPU and buying a quad core.

I'll have to see. thanks for the help.

If the motherboard has any OC options, the stock fan should be able to handle a decent overclock. Worth a shot at least.

Awesome, I'll OC a little and see how it performs. How would the ATI 5670 compare? 89.99 at Canadacomputers

Answer: Badly, I just googled it.

Going with the 250 or 450 and OC. thanks guys.
