New GPU marketshare numbers from JPR

"Nvidia gained in the notebook integrated and discrete sectors while AMD also edged up a tad in the desktop discrete segment."

It looks like Nvidia lost 1% market share . Uh oh! There going out of business! 🙂

Confusing graph FTL!

Conclusion is this: (tell me if I'm wrong)
Nvidia gained 5% market share from Q4 09 to Q1 10.
AMD gained 2,3% market share from Q4 09 to Q1 10.
Intel lost 8% market share from Q4 09 to Q1 10.

Yup.

The comments relating to the markets don't seem to agree with what AMD said at their investor call, where they grew mobile and were flat in desktop share relative to NV (IIRC).

It looks to me like they lost 5% over the last quarter. I wouldn't say "going out of business", but that's definitely not a good sign.

The loss of integrated chipset graphics will undoubtedly hurt Nvidia.

Wrong way round. They GAINED 5% over the previous quarter, mainly due to a massive decline in Intel shipments. (But even flat unit sales from Q4 to Q1 is positive given typical seasonality).

It surprises me Intel lost marketshare. This tells me their integrated garbage doesnt work well with Vista and Win7 and customers are voicing their disapproval to OEMs.

I think that might be because before you could configure any CPU with integrated graphics, with the Core i3/i5/i7's you can only do it with the dual core versions. Thinking you can fit Lynnfield to get HD Graphics? Think again.

Though its debatable if their previous marketshare in graphics was resulted by vendors opting for the IGP chipset based motherboards to stick a discrete GPU since the motherboards were cheaper.

My thinking also. I bought a discreet gpu with an I5 because nothing integrated at the time.

So if someone were to accuratly write the marketshares divided between the big 3 gpu makers, what would the percentages look like?

(gpu total)
Intel: 50
AMD: 20
nVidia: 30

??

50/50 would be nice, but hard to see amd continuing to compete with their cpu market a mess.

Most important would be a very good game that really uses this stuff and knocks consoles down a bit.
