ok lets go at it again: mabye some bands pay their way to get on the radio but most bands get on the radio because they become trendy and is what the listening audience wants to hear.

i believe popular stations... get told what to play by independant promoters who are paid fees by record companies, for the most part... there are exceptions of course. and then that's when they become trendy. otherwise the radio wouldn't suck :p

Ok you mentioned the shirts being 15, ok about those shirts that are 15, those are the ugly shirts taht no one wants, so therefore they have to sell them at a cheaper price. But look at the black goldfinger skullkie, the popular one - $20, its not made any different from the rest of them, except that it doesnt look like crap. Ok about the cd costing 18, i admit that i was wrong (although the foot in mouth was being sold for $20 at their show when it was first released, but they must have lowered it on their website), but abotu the goldfinger and reel big fish concert, that was not $20, that was $28 and i rememeber that when i bought the ticket off the interent, it came to a total of $35 with the fees and stuff, so it was defntly not 20. Not sure about the bloodhound gang one, but not the reel big fish tour. But again if we go back to the other bands, midtown for example (i was wrong on their prices), they are selling the cd off their label for 12 shipped! and you can pick it up at the warehouse for 11.00 w/o tax. Plus i remember that the last midtown show i went to with dashboard confessional (2 big bands for that matter) it was 20 total off tickets.com so subtracting the fees it must have been around 14 dollars. Either way you look at it, goldfinger charges more for their stuff.

well you can't blame goldfinger for t-master's crappiness... but anyways, i agree they do charge more, but what i'm saying is that it isn't outrageous.

anyways, it's pointless to argue... like i said, i doubt either of us knows enough to make these judgements.

otherwise the radio wouldn't suck

it sucks because it doesnt play what you like... Im not saying that the radio plays anything i like either, and i also think it sucks. But there are plenty of people who love the radio because it plays all the "good songs." I was always under the impression that radio stations play what the general populace likes, and are paid by the advertisements, not not what promoters tell them to play (or bribe for that matter). If they played what promoters told them to play, and the general audience didn't like those songs, then they would lose ads. But since the radio is dicated by profits they will play the songs that are popular, thus increasing sponsors, not the other way around i beilieve.

I think the promoter thing you are referring to is that bigger labels tell a radio station you have to play this smaller band or else you can't play the popular band's songs on our label.

no, it is not that at all. radio stations consult with indies because they don't have time to figure out what to play. labels pay indies to push their songs. if they don't pay, they don't get pushed, much smaller chance of getting played. even if it is a big artist like pink, they have to pay, because if they don't, the indies might hold a grudge when the labels do need the indies.

btw, where do you think the general populace gets its music? they turn on the radio, if they hear a song they like, then wow, they've found a song they like.

Even though they aren't played as much as Blink182

Funny you said that. The new music seems more confined to that Blink sound, as opposed to their older songs that had a decent beat and a different sound. Bah..I'll stick to my locals..like Catch 22.

It's not a question of selling out. There's no way to avoid the desire to make money. It's just a shame too many bands are radically altering their style (Weezer, Goldfinger, Green Day) in order to fit their label's image.

i think what you're referring to is the catchier melodies they employ... there were a few catchy older songs like mable and puck you and your cat... their new songs have a lot of resemblence to their older songs if you ask me.

but you're right, they do it to get more fans... people like catchy music.

hello! i must defend weezer here. they do not change their style to fit their label's image. in fact, they do whatever they want including releasing their album in mp3 form before even releasing their album (against their label's wishes) and also they put out their latest album only after a year after their prior album release date (instead of waiting the usual 3 year between albums that record labels like), and they are already working on the NEXT album. they also fired their management and handle their own stuff now.

weezer does their own thing, on their own terms.
