I bought a brand new Gigabyte GA-Z68A-D3H-B3 motherboard and pair a brand new i3 2100 and I got weird motherboard power-up problem.

I tried 3 power supplies (2 old and one brand new), they all worked one point of time, outside of case. Once I put it into the case, it stopped powering up. I checked the case stand-off screws and made sure they are not touching any part of the motherboard circuit.

Then I took the motherboard outside of the case, wait overnight, plugged the power supplies back in, and it powers up! Put the board back to case, it stopped again! Tried several times and I don't know when it will power up again. Probably another several hours?

I heard power good beep only once. During testing, the motherboard could power up but without any beep. What's going on here? I'm really exhausted back and forth.

What's your thought? Is it the motherboard? case? or power supply? I just filed RMA request for motherboard yesterday but haven't return it yet.

Buy the way, I made sure CPU cooler fasteners are pushed in all the way to the other side of motherboard.

When you say yo checked the standoff screws, did you check that there none installed where they shouldn't be, i.e., where there's no screw hole in the MB?

Make sure all your stand-off's are alined with the holes on the motherboard.

Your motherboard is shorting in the case. You need to check the standoffs and maybe the cpu backplate, if there is one.

I think I found the culprit.

The USB bracket's motherboard connector's was not plugged in correctly since the connector is not oriented, which probably causes shorting and makes motherboard non-bootable.

I had exactly the same issue a few days ago. Tracked it down to a damn fan causing the short.
