new Gigabyte board (Z87mx-D3H) not detecting video card

Bought a Z87MX-D3H a few months back. I've been using the integrated graphics on the i7-4770K but lately I've been getting weird stuff like the entire PC freezing on Google maps.

Anyway, I installed an old 9800GT I had laying around but the PC will not recognize it. Is there something in the BIOS I have to do? I tried disabling the integrated graphics, but then I was stuck with no video and had to reset the CMOS.

Thanks

Which PCI Express slots have you tried?
And just in case you haven't do so already, make sure you are setting your monitor the the correct input for your video card/cable.

Does the card work on another machine?

tried the top-most slot and the 3rd one down. do I need to turn off the integrated video before it'll pick up the PCI card? yes, it works in other boxes

Hmm, I wouldn't think so as it supports running both. What if you put in the card, but run off your integrated video, install the drivers for the card, and then reboot with the card plugged in?

So if you have the card installed, and try to run off the integrated video, will it not boot, or just not recognize the card in the OS?

If not, could be an age barrier here (older card), assuming you are not missing a power connection.

Also could be something Gigabyte needs to address in a BIOS update. Have you tried sending them an email about the issue?

card is not recognized in OS. this card doesn't need an extra power connection. updated BIOS today with no help. I think the Google maps thing is just a driver issue with Intel.

no, the only issue at all is that Google maps will freeze entire PC and mouse. I have to hold power button in for 6 secs to restart. The Intel drivers for integrated video are updated and it still happens but that's the only thing and that has been going on since I built the machine. It happens in all browsers too.

I just checked and this card does not need extra power. I guess the GTX does, but not the GT.

I have the card installed into the PCI16x slot. I've also tried the 8x slot. Aren't they backwards compatible?

in bios do you have enable pci-e for video

This is interesting, in the manual indicates that EFI is the default, but I am wondering if Auto is what you actually want here. Also, are you using Fast Boot?

do you know for certain that's an option? I went through all of the fields and do not remember that one

It's not if fast boot is enabled. This is according to page 50 of the online manual.
