New gfx card x850 XT = nightmare !

hi, after posting this issue on another site with a huge community and not getting that far after 25 replies i figured i'll give it a shot here ...

So since last week i am the "proud?" owner of a Sapphire Radeon X850 XT (agp) grapics card.

the problem i have is that during gaming my pc locks up.
this happens with GTA SA, HL2 and BF2 .. (didnt try any other games).

Either the game freezes and i cannot do anyting except pressing reset
or
my monitor goes black
or
my pc reboots itself.

this is my current pc:
Msi k8t800 Neo
4 hdd's (C: being a 36 gig raptor)
512mb (2*256) DDR Apacer pc 2100
a nic
and a chieftec 340w psu.

i've tried low medium and high settings in these games and they all come to the same result

First i thought it was the memory, concidering its pretty old and not all that fast anymore or even just plain not enough of it.
but i figure if it were to be a mem problem wouldnt the games just stutter instead of rebooting my pc ?

then i figured it might be a heat problem ... its been very hot last couple of days here in belgium and thus it was hot in my room,
but now that it has somewhat cooled down the problem persists. on top of that this afternoon, when it was alot hotter in my room
then it is now ive played several games for a few hours without any problems and now that its cooler i crash after 10-20 minutes
of gameplay. Wich does not make much sense.

So lastly i figured it might be the PSU not giving enough power ... not sure how to check that.
anyway thats about as far as i got.

my previous gfx card was a faithfull asus geforce 4 ti4200. I did not reformat my hard drive i just unplugged, did a little dust cleaning,
put in the (huge) radeon, uninstalled geforce drivers and installed the radeon ones and thats it.

if anyone has any pointers before i go out spending even more money on a new psu or more and faster mem please let me know.

accoring to msi corecenter my case temp is 50 degrees celcius and my cpu 45 and up .. in idle state.

hope someone can help! 🙂
