Ok guys,

My current system is an i5 2500k on a P8H67-M Pro Mobo (yes I cnt overclock it but I wanted the HD 3000 gfx for £8 more than the 2500 and it has better resale value). Anyway, I game primarily on the xbox, so I didnt see the need to add a dedicated gpu if I wasn't going to be gaming on the pc. The integrated gfx runs fine - windows aero looks smooth and Iv had no problems atall playing HD videos, internet browsing and doing some light video editing on it etc.

This summer though, I intend to start doing some gaming on the pc - Starcraft 2, WoW, a few other rpg's and I definitely intend on buying the new Elder Scrolls game when its released later this year. I currently use a 32" HDTV for both my xbox and pc - I run it at a resolution of 1360x768. I have a budget of about 250 because I want the card to last me a few years and to play recent games at an acceptable frame-rate. (My psu is a 430W Corsair so I think I might have to upgrade it)

Can anyone suggest a gfx card that would fit my needs nicely? I was thinking about the 570, but is this overkill at my resolution?

The H67 is compatible with all modern graphics cards so that part doesn't matter.

The 560 is a overkill for now, but will last years and will let you run many games at full resolution if you get a 1080p TV later.

If you want to get a cheaper but good enough card, think 460 1GB.

Thanks Dave, I will likely get a 560 (more specifically the Gigabyte Super Overclock one). One last thing, my psu is a corsair 430w - will I need to upgrade this, and if so will any decent 500w psu run a 560? Thanks again

DaveSimmons opinion that he just gave you is right on the mark as the 460 1GB is a great card and will play all the games you mentioned pretty damn well. They have come down in price so I feel that is your better option also. As for the 560, it is more expensive and most likey an over kill for you at this point Based on your Budget. And yes you will have to upgrade your power supply to at least 500w. That would be advisable.

I should of mentioned I'm from the UK, £250 is my budget (which is roughly $400). Obviously I don't want to waste money if the 560 is overkill, but seeing as it means I probably wont have to upgrade it for a few years, it seems like the better investment than the 460 - especially if I do end up getting a proper 1080p monitor somewhere down the line. Thanks for advice

What's the price difference between a 460 and a 560 in the UK? In the US a 560 costs about 50% more then a 460 1gb for about 23% more performance. So the 460 1gb is definitely the better value. And any money you save can be put towards a upgrade in the future. You will get a lot more performance for you money in a year or two then you will now.

I can get something like an MSI GeForce GTX 560 Ti TWIN FROZER for £199 ($325), or an EVGA GeForce GTX 460 Super Clocked for £143 ($234).

The other 460 models seem to be more expensive, going all the way up to £220 ($360) for something like the 2GB Zotac GeForce GTX 460. I have a lot of choices I suppose, I want a card that will be reliable and has a decent warrenty

What about the EVGA GeForce GTX 560 Ti at £191 ($312) compared to the EVGA GeForce GTX 460 Super Clocked £143 ($234)? Is the 80$ premium worth it do you think?

I really doubt you'll need to upgrade your psu for a 560. Most people vastly overestimate how much power their machines use. You didn't mention what else you have hooked up but if you just have 1-2 hd, a dvd, a non oc-ed 2500 and the 560, you are not breaking 400w

For your TV at 1360 x 768 with vsync:
GTX460 = 60fps
GTX560 = 60fps

At such a low resolution, even the 460 1GB might be overkill. Save your $$.

yeah there is not much point in getting anything faster than a gtx460 at that super low res. your psu is fine with a gtx460 as long as you don't do any significant overclocking. you could also get a 6850 which uses less power than a gtx460.
