ok i don't think my cd burner will last me too long so im in the market for a nice dvd burner.

i've pretty much decided on the NEC 3520A, but then its DL writing isn't so good...

so anyone know of any announcement from whatever major company (benq, nec, pioneer etc) that they'll release a faster dvd burner? i'd wait for that and see which one i should buy

thanks

The Sony DRU800A just came out, & it supports DVD-DL burning, not just +DL burning :)

That new NEC 3520 does also.

First, you are replacing a CD writer and you are worried about DL DVD as a restriction? Hmm... How often do you plan to use it? Media still is a bit expensive and it seems that you are worrying about something that you may not use often or is cheap to replace (less than $60!)

Remember that 6X DVD is NOT the same as 6X CD. The fastest DL could be is 16X, which would be well above any CD write speeds that are generally available. So, a 4X DVD write is pretty fast. I standardly write SL at 8X. DL would take twice as long IF I had twice the data at 8X.

Remember, with computer stuff, no matter what... It will be faster AND cheaper next week. Buy when you need to and go with the flow. ;)
