Here is a system I plan to build for gaming. Anyone see any changes I should make (I do not mind adding $100-$150 to the system cost, if it makes sense - right now the price for all is just under $1300.)

CPU: E8400

MB: Asus P5Q Deluxe (P45 chipset)

Memory: Mushkin 4GB (2X2) DDR2 800

O/S: Vista 64 Home Premium SP1

Case: Cooler Master CM 690

Video Card: HD 4870 (will Crossfire later)

Heat Sink: Kingwin Revolution HDT 12025

Hard Drive: WD6400AAKS SE16 640 (might add another one later)

DVD: LG 22X IDE DVD Burner

PSU: PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 Quad

From what I picked up with others helping me find a build, I'd say that's decent, except for one flaw.

If you want CF, don't go w/ that motherboard. X38 or X48 will suit. P45 has gimped CF abilities (x8/x8 instead of true x16/x16).

Thanks. I might not crossfire and it is not too bad of a difference and BIOS might get better in that regard.

What about the P5Q Pro? It has a bundle deal with E8400 at newegg and offers the same powers of x8,x8 gimpfire.

What about a real sound card? Maybe onboard is fine with you, but it kills me ;)
