Glad you got it working! The top card in an SLI setup will always be hotter than the bottom card because it's sucking hot air from the bottom card.

I don't think I would change out the big fans for a bunch of smaller fans. Make geometry work for you, not against you. What I mean by that is that a 230x230mm fan is almost the same overall area as 4 120x120mm fans (240x240mm), but only has one hub versus 4. The hub is basically dead space that doesn't move any air at all, so the 230mm fan probably has more blade area.
