New Gaming Rig....Mouse???

Playmaker

I am building a new gaming rig and need to decide on a mouse. I play pretty much every kind of game, but mostly first person shooters where accuracy is key. I would consider any mouse besides a cordless or boomslang. I did a search and found the boomslang recommended, but I don't have enough $$$$ for one. What mouse do you all use for FPS gaming besides a boomslang or cordless??? Thanks in advance.

I say Explorer or the Logitech wingman(is that the right one?) the Logitech is a little cheaper, but id go for it if it feels better...Stay away from cordless for FPS, they don't have the refresh rate needed to snipe/rail people with precision. Logitechs cordless optical has gotten BAD reviews...So it's down to Explorer and Logitech, head down to your local B&M to see which one is better

I would stay away from the Boomslang. It seems as though that company is going out of business, according to those who have it and are trying to get service for it. When someone gets a good one of these, they love it. But they seem to be constantly breaking down according to many users.

As a fellow FPS fanatic, (nothin like a little URT to blow off some steam after a rough day at work...), I gotta reccomend a trackball. It takes a bit to get used to, but it's great once you do. I have a USB Logitech Trackman Marble, and I think it's great.

i'd recommend an optical version,
possibly from logitech, they're really nice as long as you're bying retail

No trackball, I'm stickin to the old school keyboard and mouse 😀 Optical for gaming? I haven't been keeping up on mice technology I guess, but right after MS came out with their optical I gave it a try and thought it skipped kinda, might have been the surface tho. Do any of you ever have skipping problems in games like Counterstrike, etc.? The picking up and centering thing I can get used to by using a bigger mousepad, but I'll always flick the mouse to turn quickly. Does anyone have problems with that at all?

Opticals skip, I should know I had 2. Don't buy an optical if you play FPS games. For everything else though they are better than ball mice.

Logiteck is also good. Whatever you get make sure it is USB because the sample rate is much better = smoother movement. (make sure you have USB ports on your puter of course).

Also you really need to feel it first. A mouse that feels good to one person might be too small or large for another. A lot of people here like the microsoft intellimouse but I find it to be a little too small for my hand.

My hands aren't giant so I like the Explorer as it's pretty big and curved for the right hand but if you have bigger hands then go with the standard Microsoft Optical mouse.

Either way, I use the Explorer which is optical in FPS games all the time and have never had a problem with it. I usually have to tune the mouse speed down a bit because it is so precise.

If you get the optical, get a bumpy, dark mouse pad. I have one, and my Intellimouse Explorer barely ever skips, even when I move it fast.

i have the logitech wingman its really good never had a skipping problem yet with this and a everglide and its cheap too though ive heard the opticals are better

i've got an mircosoft opitical and when i get in the heat of battle (playing games fast) i tend to lift the mouse up a little off the table then the cursor doesent move ...so for heavy gaming stick with a ball type mouse seems a little better control when getting fraged....

i have a logitech cordless mouseman (the ergo one) and its not so bad, ask gf (testing, is gf in GH) she feels the AK all the time.

Just got a boomslang from someone here. Haven't tried it but heard it was ultra-sensitive. If you want to buy it cheap, PM me.

I have a Razer Boomslang 2K and I use a Ratpadz mousepad. You absolutely cannont beat that combo when it cames to lightning fast accuracy and precision. If you can't tell from the name already, the boomslang has 2000dpi precision, whereas the average regular mouse has 350-500. When I first got it I dropped teh sensitivity way down just b/c it was so accurate. I'm about as hardcore as they come when it comes to playing computer games, especially FPS and I haven't found anything yet that beats it. I bought mine at Best Try err Buy ;P for 89.99. BTW if anyone wants info on a awesome 3-day LAN party, go to recon2000.com. I will be there, owning up some CS 🙂)
