Hello!
I plan to build a new gaming PC primarily intended for gaming at 1080p from scratch. Budget is ~1000€, parts will be bought from Germany (not sure about the exact vendor yet, gonna choose the cheapest option once I've got my build all sorted out). I already have access to a Windows 7 license, so I don't need to spend money on the OS or software (apart from games, obviously) Here is my build as I have it so far:

  • Processor: Intel i5-4570
  • Graphics Card: Asus Direct CUII Top R9 280X
  • RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB DDR3-1600
  • SSD : Samsung 840 Evo 250GB
  • HDD : Seagate Barracuda 7200 1TB
  • DVD Drive: LG Electronics GH24N595
  • Mainboard: Gigabyte GA-H87-HD3
  • Power: be quiet! System Power 7 450W
  • Case: BitFenix Shinobi (+ additional fans)

I would be grateful if someone with more experience could look over this setup. I am especially uncertain about which modell of the 280X to use - the ASUS one seems to be a good tradeoff between performance, noise and price, but maybe someone can suggest a better alternative?

Thanks a lot in advance

I guess you're not looking to overclock.

Personally I wouldn't allocate that much money on the SSD, it's a secondary concern for a gaming PC. Same for RAM - you don't need 16GB. Your budget isn't unlimited... However I'm going to let the SSD thing slide because with no custom R9 290's out yet, there's no worthy pick for 1080p gaming above the R9 280X price bracket.

Priced through geizhals.de:

CPU - Xeon E3 1230 V3 210e
Mobo - Asrock H87 Performance 83e
RAM - 2x4GB G.Skill 1600MHz 61e
GPU - MSI 280X Gaming ~ 270e - this and other 280X's seem to be out of stock everywhere
SSD - Crucial M500 240GB 129e
HDD - WD Blue 1TB 49e
DVD - Lite-ON iHas-124 16e
PSU - Super Flower Golden Green Pro 550W 74e
Case - Bitfenix Shinobi Black 50e + Bitfenix Spectre 120mm 6e

= 948e + shipping

I'd change the case to Fractal Design R4 though. Better than a Shinobi in every way, works fine with just the two 140mm fans, costs 30e more.
