New gaming PC, what to do first?

Ok, so my new PC will be here in a few days. I will be using it primarily for gaming. I have a few questions as to what I should do first to get it running well and setup.
1. Updating drivers - should I go into device manager and lets windows search and update my drivers?
2. Backup strategy - I'm looking at a WD My Book Essential 1TB external HDD to backup. Should I leave this connected all the time and let it do scheduled backups? And what type of backup should I do? How do I do a system image backup?
3. Any other things I should do or good programmes to download? I've heard of MSI afterburner but what is this? Ill be adding anti virus as well of course.

Cheers =D

1) Grab the latest drivers from the appropriate manufacturers. Video drivers from AMD/NVIDIA, mobo drivers from Intel/AMD, etc.

3) MSI Afterburner is a video card monitoring and overclocking utility. Do you plan on overclocking your video card?

I dont plan on overclocking it. To get those latest drivers do i go to AMD's website or let windows do it through the device manager?

Osama Bin Laden dead =D

Do people actually answer peoples questions in threads on this forum? Would actually like some informative answers. So far thanks ViRGE for the info.

If you're looking for an answer to the backup question, you'd probably have better luck in the Storage forum. I'm not too sure how many people here have experience with the MyBook.

Ok cheers I'll try that. Any other tips on first things to do with a new build to get it running sweet and any decent programmes to download?
