Ok my current monitor is going bad and I decided it's time for an upgrade. My budget is 400 though and that's creating some confusion for me.

As far as 24inch monitors go I like this one: Viewsonic VX2433 23.6 Inch

Viewsonic monitors have been good for me in the past and that's pretty good bang for the buck. I can spend 400 though so I'd like something bigger. Looking at newegg the only thing I see is some Asus and Samsung 25.5inch monitors for under 400.

Thing is I've had a Samsung go bad early before (anecdotal evidence I know) so I'm a bit skeptical there. I don't know anything about Asus monitors either. I just see that they are really cheap and that sends off warning signals as well.

So I thought I'd ask here if anyone has any thoughts and advice on the matter?

That's a 24 inch though right? I mainly want to know if any of the 25.5+ choices under 400 are any good.

I agree with this 100%.

24 inch S-PVA >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 25.5 inch TN

This is strictly a gaming monitor though so TN is the superior choice unless I missed something. S-PVA sometimes has input lag and slower response times doesn't it?

Strictly for gaming, I'd get a TN panel. There are a number of decent TN panels in the 24"+ category available - just pick your favorite retailer and start reading reviews. ;)

After switching away from TN panels, I do LOVE *VA / ISP panels for their vivid colors and viewing angles. You'll pay roughly twice as much, and especially with *VA panels, input lag can be a problem.
