New Gaming Display for FPS.

My system is as follows:

Q9550
8GB ram
Six 128GB SSD in Raid 0
GTX 680 Classified, GTX 285 Physics.

I'm using a Viewsonic Professional 22" CRT today. and I am looking for a replacement 24" -27" monitor. I play BF3, MW3, Skyrim, etc. Remember, i'm used to a CRT...

I would like to spend around $300, as that is my pre xmiss budget. I could go a bit higher, but I need justification.

Will I be happy with 1920 by 1080 or should I get something with a higher res?

60 or 120 hz?

U2412 isn't specifically an FPS gaming display. It's just a nice IPS panel.

For FPS gaming specifically, especially online and if you're competitive about it, get a 120hz TN panel. To fully benefit from it you should run your games as close to 120 fps as possible. That requires either a fast GPU setup or low settings, and the CPU needs to be fast to avoid bottle necking.

Since your CPU is just a Q9550, you won't be able to reach those high frame rates. Three options:

1. Get a 120hz panel like BenQ XL2420T $390 (or search for a used VG236H / VG236HE) and be prepared to upgrade to i5-3570K or Haswell i5 as soon as possible (overclock it).

2. Settle for a 60hz panel to avoid having to upgrade the CPU to get the most out of 120hz. The Dell is nice.

3. Keep using your CRT and upgrade to i5-3570K + Z77 for xmas.

OT: Why do you have six SSD's in raid 0? Wouldn't it have been better to spend that money on the CPU?

I'm open a to CPU upgrade, if that is the conciseness.

I had the SSD's laying around.

I would like to use the SDD's if possible, seems like not many motherboards support six ssd's in raid, and I really have 8 SDD's ( 128gb ) and a hot spare.

I was thinking that a 2500k seems a good deal.


Thoughts? I guess I could start a new thread.
