New gaming comp?

Googs

Junior Member
Hi to all at ANandTech. I recently registered on this site searching for advice. I've had this Dell computer for awhile now and have come to realize that it needs replacing. I was thinking of getting a new PC built around gaming since that's about all I use the computer for. I currently play games like WoW and I lag to hell on this computer. What I was wondering was if someone could suggest a computer that would fit my needs. I am not very knowledgeable about computers and im giving this currect computer is going to turn into the "family computer" that everyone uses so upgrading this computer really isn't an option. I'm willing to spend up to $2000. I would like to buy it prebuilt since I'm not too smart with comps. I was hoping that everything would come ready to go and i could just hook up a few wires like I did with this Dell and start using it right away.

Thanks for your help

Monarch computers makes quality products, and builds quality pcs, BUT be prepared for alot of hastle. The waiting time very very long. When they say it takes 1-2 weeks, be prepared to wait 2-4. Their non combo/non system offerings are fast and have reliable shipping though.

For a gaming computer, you definitley want to go AMD.
If you want a prebuilt, ther are several vendors that make high quality AMD gaming machines, but you will pay a premium for them.

I would personally advise against Monarch for a prebuilt. Too many delays in builds and IMO way too many initial problems with their systems. They do have their own forum, so I suggest you check it out and make your own decision on this as you probably won't be able to find a better price than Monarch.

Now you can always build your own and save some money, sometimes alot of money. You will get all the help you need here to do it, and it's not very difficult. You should definitley consider this.

I would consider doing so (building a PC), you'll save a ton of cash.

Or, resort to a site like
http://www.buy-abs.com <-- customer service is excellent if you need it.

http://www.ibuypower.com <-- I ordered a prebuilt from them once a while ago. Ordered 3 day shipping and got it in 3 days. No problems whatsoever. VERY BIG HINT though: Choose a quality power supply. The only good ones that I see listed is the Enermax SLI ready PSU (and maybe a few others, just skimmed through this really quickly). They do have watercooled systems if you need the quietness. Be prepared to do some research on selecting your parts (they don't offer a whole lot of selections, but hey, it's prebuilt). Another hint: Call the guys on the phone and place your order by phone. These guys will give you personal advice (but do your research before buying, as always), I know I did and they told me to get a quality power supply to power up my rig.

If I were you, this is the system I'd be looking at (overpriced, but for a beginner, I guess prebuilt might be an easier option).

Do plenty of research. Especially on your motherboard (hint: see sig).
Of the motherboards that they list, the only good one is the eVGA (it just came out, it might be buggy though) and the Gigabyte GA-K8NXP-SLI (might be unstable, but if you add some cooling you'll have better luck).

Good luck. You've got PM.

Not too shabby considering that they build it for you. You could save a little bit of money by building it yourself though.

Edit: "Wireless Network Adapter ( [Special !!!] Wireless 802.11g 54Mbps PCI Adapter ) "
^-- Get rid of that. I guess I overlooked that and forgot to hit "None." The board comes with a wireless adapter anyways.

Heh. Dude you could save some cash building this on your own:

Raidmax Samurai $130 //Too much to pay for a case IMO. But I got too lazy to choose another one
Enermax 535 $88
3000+ $145
Half Life 2: $50
2 fans: $10
Gigabyte Motherboard: $160
XP Home: $90
1GB of ram: $80
7800GTX: $500
200GB harddrive: $90
Burner: $50
Audigy 2-zs $70
klipsch promedia: $300
Floppy: $5
----------------
$1768

$1939 - $1768 = $171 saved.
