Hello Anandtech community,

I want to build a new PC and would appreciate any input.

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.

First and foremost gaming, but I will also use it for browsing, netflix, word, music etc.
Currently I play World of Tanks, SC II, CS:GO and War Thunder, but with my new PC I wanna start playing Elite Dangerous and Star Citizen

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread
About 900 €

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.
Germany, I will most likey get my parts from one of the following vendors:
www.hoh.de/ ; www.alternate.de/ ; http://www.computeruniverse.net/

5. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc.
No preference

6. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.
I want to reuse my SSD, HDD, Case, 12 gigs ddr3 ram, if possible also my power supply bequite 550 W

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.
No plans to overclock

8. What resolution, not monitor size, will you be using?
2560x1080

9. WHEN do you plan to build it?
within the next 3 weeks

X. Do you need to purchase any software to go with the system, such as Windows or Blu Ray playback software?
No I have everything I need

right now I'm thinking of something like this:
GPU: MSI gtx 970 for 350€ http://www.hoh.de/hardware/grafikka...rie/msi/1022775/msi-geforce-gtx-970-4gb-gddr5

CPU: i7 4790k for 300€ http://www.hoh.de/hardware/cpu-proz...re-i7-4790k-4x4.00-ghz-1150-box-devils-canyon

Motherboard: MSI Z87 g45 for 120€ http://www.hoh.de/hardware/mainboar...1/msi-z87-g45-gaming-z87-sockel-1150-atx-ddr3

CPU fan: Alpenföhn Brocken for 30€ http://www.hoh.de/hardware/cpu-proz...oehn/62991/ekl-alpenfoehn-brocken-cpu-kuehler

Total ~ 800€
Would I also need a new, more powerful Power Supply for this build? What do you think of the build? And also how future proof is this Setup, will this get me through the next 3 to 4 years?
Should I consider stretching my budget and get the i7 5820k, X99 Motherboard and 16 gigs of ddr4 ram?

GPU: Excellent choice!

CPU: Also very good! Especially since you're not overclocking.

Motherboard: Z87 can have compatibility problems with Devil's Canyon. If you think you might ever overclock, get a Z97. (Here's an ASRock for a similar price. If you'll never overclock, you could get an H97 board for less instead.

CPU fan: Since you're not overclocking, you technically don't need a CPU fan. However, Devil's Canyon can get hot. (Naturally! ;)) Our usual go-to around here for basic cooling beyond stock is the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo. Not sure if that other cooler can fit LGA1150.

RAM: What configuration is that 12GB in? If it's 3x4GB you might want a fourth 4GB to enable dual-channel mode.

PSU: The GTX 970 is one card I wouldn't worry about using a 550W PSU with. Especially if you're not overclocking.

The i7 5820k would probably double your cost, and you'd need to overclock it quite a bit to ensure similar performance in many games. I wouldn't.

 I would say that the i5 4690K at 210 € is a much better value than the i7. Though the i7 is easily within your budget.

@Ken g6
My RAM is 2x4GB and 2x2GB.
That ASRock motherboard looks great, thank's for the info on the z87 compatibility issues.
I will get that Cooler Master you recommended.
I'll stay away from the i7 5820k.

@mfenn

thank you for the swift replies
