I am finally going to upgrade my computer. This is my suggestion. I am planning to OC.

cpu: AMD Opteron 165 $271 at monarch (in bundle with mobo)
mobo: DFI LanParty UT Nforce4 Ultra-D $125 at monarch (in bundle with mobo)
gpu: eVGA GeForce 7800 gt PCI Express $300 Zipzoomfly
hd: WD4000YR $ 219 Monarch
mem: G.SKILL Extreme Series(2 x 1GB) Unbuffered DDR 500 (PC 4000) Dual Channel $197 Newegg
DVDRW: BenQ DQ-60 16X DVD? RW w/Dual Layer $45 Ichibanpc
Soundcard: Creative Labs X-Fi XtremeMusic 7.1 24-Bit Sound Card $113 Monarch

Would like some suggestion on what case/ps to get

$1270 so far

I would go with either a Lian Li case or a P180, unless you want the rediculous cooling with the CM830 😀

for the case choose anything that you like that has no psu with good airflow, and get an antec TPII 430w psu (70$) is more than enough for your system

A psu with high amperage (> 30a) on the 12v rail and a reliable brand...OCZ, PCP&C, Seasonic, Fortron are all good. A good ~450w psu would run that rig fine.

OXY, this build gets my complete seal of approval. You ABSOLUTELY did your research and this system in my opinion will give you the best bang for your buck. I wouldn't change a thing about it.

See my sig, I'm building almost exactly the same system but I just went one step up. If I didn't have the money I'd buy exactly what you listed here. The ram is great, the processor is the best for the money, eVGA is dominating, the hard drive is the 7200RPM raptor. BenQ can't be touched and the new AD0 revisions of the Ultra-D are almost as good as the new expert.

I reccomend OCZ PowerStream 520W for your PSU.

that's a pretty sweet setup oxy.

I have one recommendation, though. Get some 10k rpm raptors in raid 0 instead of the HD you are looking at for your boot HD.

The HD you are lookng at would work well as media storage / sys backup.

I say this because you will find out shortly that your HD's will be the bottleneck on a system build like that.

Jack is right, but RAID 0 has *VERY* limited implications. It will make windows boot slightly faster and you will be able to load very large files and game maps a little faster, but the main slow part of a hard drive is its access time, or how quickly it can locate the files. NOT how quickly it can load them after they have been found. The WD4000YR was almost named the "7200RPM Raptor" because it is essentially that with more space.

What I'm getting at is, I don't see a need for Raid 0. By the looks of this build, you're interested in getting the GREATEST bang for the buck. Your performance will increase with a 10,000RPM raptor, but it won't be the same bang for the buck.

Great choices. I'd suggest PC4000 Ballistix over the G.Skill, but Samsung TCCD is hot ****. I'd also suggest the NEC-ND3550A CD/DVD Burner over the BenQ, but I don't have a rational explanation why (I'm a bit of an NEC fan).

The Antec Performance I series (P160, P160W, or the newer P180) are good choices.

For a PSU, I'd suggest Antec, OCZ, Enermax, Seasonic, or PC Power & Cooling. There are so many choices with each manufacturer, so I'll leave finding a particular model up to you or someone else that posts here.

Good luck and let us know what you pick!

I like the Antec Sonata II, and it comes with a 450w Antec PSU. Everything looks good. The retail NEC 3550A is a little cheaper at newegg and comes with Nero 6, but nothing wrong with the BenQ either.
