After having had my current A64 Build for over 3 years and now im starting to play games other then WOW like action and FPS games that require a bit more hardware my current rig is starting to show its age so am looking to put together a new gaming rig. Having not upgraded for 3 years im a bit out of the loop in regards to hardware now, after a bit of research this is list ive come up with, advice and input would be appreciated thanks in advance.
Budget $1500-$2000 thats in AUS dollars so things will be a bit more expensive.
Using PC for Games,Videos all kinds of multimedia. I dont plan on OCing
CPU - C2 Q6600
MB - Gigabyte P35-DS4/ABIT IP35-PRO (tossing up between the two)
Mem - 4 X 1 GB (4GB) Corsair 6400 800mhz
Video - 8800GT (whichever brand i can find at the moment lol)
Case - Antec P182
PSU - Corsair HX-520
HDD - Seagate SATAII NCQ 500GB
CD - Pioneer DVR-212BK SATA
OS - Vista home Premium 64
going to reuse my relativly new Samsung 940B moniter for the moment so will be gaming in 1280X1024 for the moment till I upgrade moniter within in the next year
Few questions
1) Having had some bad experience with Asus lately was looking at Gigabyte P35-DS4/ABIT IP35-PRO boards which is the better board? (they are both nearly the same price) where I am at the moment it can get quite warm so dont want something that is going to run quite hot, having never had experience with ABIT before how is there customer service providing updates? looking for something that is stable and wont run into problems further down the track.
2) Since my current version of XP is OEM will need to get a new OS was thinking Vista 64 for futureproof and so it can use the full amount of memory but how stable is it for games/multimedia now and how is the driver support for it?
3) Do I really need a soundcard? Is onboard sound good enough? I have a 5.1 setup which i have been using with an Audigy 2 for the last 3 years but having had all sorts of creative driver problems dont really want to get another one of their cards.
