So I have heard that motherboards, memory and disk drives are at an all time low. So I think I should build a pc now before the new gen stuff comes out. Help me put the part together. This build is mainly for gaming and my budget is around $1000. I am buying my components from the US. I would like to try a Ryzen build this time. I won't be buying a GPU so list everything except that. I also think I may want to go with DDR4 memory instead of DDR5 what do you guys think? I also aready have my case. i have a Lian Li O11 dynamic

Maybe a used Xbox.
Sorry that was a typo my Budget is $1000

If you plan on gaming you will need a decent GPU, do you already have one?

If you do not have a GPU then make sure you get CPU with graphics.
Oh ya I have a GPU from My old rig and I plan to buy a new one in July when prices are back to normal. They seem to be almost there. But I think if I wait a bit more I will get a great one.

Do you need everything except the GPU or will you be reusing parts like the monitor, keyboard, mouse, case, etc?

A simple platform upgrade e.g. CPU, Motherboard, RAM would fit into a 1k budget but if you need everything except the GPU you might want to look at used or older gen parts.

Yes that is exactly what I am looking for. I got keyboards and mouse monitors ext.

All I need really is the CPU and the cooler, Motherboard, RAM, and the boot drive. I got other hds

AM4 is done. No more chips for it, however the 5800X3D is a worthy chip. Personally I try n choose platform longevity. I jumped on X570 when it came out so I haven't been on it that long. Quick note, my previous rig was an X58.

Anyways, 1700 socket will get one more chip if rumors are true. AM5 was quoted by Lisa Su to have the longevity as AM4 so 4-5yrs, 3-5 CPU upgrades.

If you go DDR4 you might get stuck with just the one chip if you went DDR5 on 1700 that might open up the option for the next CPU drop-in. It's been argued that the 12700K is the best option when considering a budget.

Between my 3080 Ti EVGA FTW3 Ultra, and my 6900XT Toxic Air cooled the AMD GPU is better. Runs cooler, etc.

if that's the case I am willing to go with the AM5 with ddr5. but I thought AM5 was not out yet? if not I want to purchase not so i will have to go with the AM4 with the ddr5. I am planning another build in 2 years anyway so I don't mind building with the AM4's now.

so I am think going with a B550 motherboard with a 5600 cpu. what do you guys think of going with 5700x cpu instead of the 5600?

I went from a 5800X to a 5800X3D and it's a noticeable improvement, even with CS:GO where they say it doesn't help. I mainly play UT4 which is UE4 engine and it's a big improvement. If it's gaming and you want 12900KS type performance even at 1440p, get the 3D chip

If it were me I would wait ~6 months for the new socket and perks of the refresh. It's the same reason on the Intel side waiting for ADL because 10/11th gen didn't offer much in the terms of tech advances.

If buying AMD now the conventional wisdom is to pick the 5600x.

Intel's 12th gen is a bit better but you said AMD...

Agree that an SSD is the only way to go these days. Spinners are for archive storage only.

$1000 is a not a great budget for a whole system but it is a great budget if you just need a few parts.

Which games or type of games will you play?

I understand that but I plan to rebuild in like a year and a half to 2 years. when those new sockets are stable and have mature bios'

Yeah I have seen that that 3d chip performs very well but it can't be overclocked and I plan to overclock it after I watercool it in about 6 months

How old is your PSU? If your drives are spinners (hard drives), I'd add an SSD.
My PSU is 3 years old. you may be on to somthing maybe I need to add a PSU too. and you are right I will add a second ssd the B550 boards do come with 2 m2 slots

I play overwatch and lost ark mainly. I did look at the 5600x but I am not sure the price to additional performance is worth it. I think the 5600 is fine. If I get a better CPU Maybe 5700 may be what I get.

So here is what My list is looking like so far.
CPU - 5600 - $200
MB - GIGABYTE B550 AORUS Elite V2- $163
memory - G.Skill Trident Z Neo Series 32GB DDR4 3600 CL16 - $194.99
SSD - 1. TEAMGROUP MP33 512GB SLC Cache 3D NAND TLC NVMe 1.3 PCIe Gen3x4 M.2 - $44
- 2 TEAMGROUP MP33 1TB SLC Cache 3D NAND TLC NVMe 1.3 PCIe Gen3x4 M.2 - $79
PSU - Cooler Master MWE Gold 550 Full Modular 80+ Gold 550W - $82

So with this I am under $800 and i can comfortably move up to a 5700 cpu
CPU Cooler - Vetroo V5 CPU Air Cooler - $35

Waiting 6 months for AM5 based options buys you a longer refresh cycle for other tech associated with CPU / MOBO to mature and advance.

If you have a working system currently there's no harm in waiting it out.. Your budget will het you more by waiting as you get the new socket on the MOBO which should last ~5 years with AMD unless they take the Intel approach of changing the socket every 2 years since AMD is switching to the LGA socket now moving forward.

If you want more performance now then I would opt for a different GPU instead of dumping the cash into a new CPU / MOBO and things associated with that.

I just upgraded my server from 8700K >> 12700K because there were significant changes to the subsystems like going from PCI 3 >> 5 and the option to be dumb enough to go to DDR5. I also just did my laptop from 9750H >> 12700H / GTX1650 >> RTX3060 and I'm seeing a significant boost in performance.

If it doesn't make life better then waiting until something comes out makes more sense.

What are you currently using?

no my pc is not coming on at all. I need to build now. I don't have a working system. I have been waiting for quite some time for GPU prices to go down before building. So I was waiting for over a year. and because of waiting my aging PC has now quit.

Seems fine. I'm using the SE226 on a 12700K and it keeps things in check. No need to pay $100+ for other options and it was $50 when I picked it up after the ADL launch.

Max temps I've seen with it are 53C and it's usually idling around mid 20's. Since I hate dealing with paste I put a graphite pad in there instead.

like what model. and isn't there new requirements for PSU's coming soon?

Yeah, there's that too. You could buy a good power-supply now and use adapters for your GPU till you buy a new PSU way down the road or you could keep using the one you already own till the market starts seeing more of the new ATX spec PSUs

Here's a really good write up on the new standard.
