Since my current rig will be woefully inadequate for games like Crysis, its time to build a new PC. I have decided to build one around the Intel Q6600. I would like to run SLI so here is what I have decided on so far.

Processor-Q6600
HSF-Tuniq Tower
Mobo-EVGA 680i
Video Cards-2xBFG 8800 GTX in SLI
HDs-2xWD Raptor 150gb in Raid
Power Supply-PC P+C 750 Quad Silencer
Case-Antec 900

What I am having trouble with now is what OS to use, and based on that what type of memory and how much memory I should get. I plan on a moderate overclock. If anyone can offer opinions I would very much appreciate it.

F*** You Jables! Sorry, had to say it.

My bud still has problems with Vista, so I'd I'd stick with XP still, and pick up Vista when its, uh, done. If you can afford 2 8800gtx's you can afford 2 OSs.

One thought though, the 8800gtx has been around for quite a while now, and it might be worth waiting a couple months for the next gens before dropping 1100-1200 on vid cards if the new ones offer 10-20% more horsepower at the same price.

You should be fine with Vista 32, but go for Vista 64 and 4 gig ram as well. I've been running Vista32 for quite awhile now and don't even miss XP at all.

If you play the "you could wait a few months" game, you'll never upgrade. What I like to do - buy the "latest gen stuff" about 4-6 months after it's released as initial sticker shock has worn off and the prices have come down slightly. About 4-6 months later, buy the next "latest gen stuff" and sell the previous gen stuff on EBAY. :)

I'd recommend at least waiting for the 8800 GT. If your a little more patient you might even consider waiting to see how good ATI's next cards are going to be.

I'm not a big fan of SLI; the performance gain just isn't worth the cost of 2 video cards, but if you really want it at least wait for 8800GT.

Another vote for going with XP and waiting until next week to see how the 8800 GT benchmarks look. You could save quite a bit of money versus the dual GTX cards.
