I was gifted with a new Galaxy S6 Edge+ and a Gear S2. The Edge+ is an international version SM-G928G, which appears to cater South American market. The phone booted to Spanish as default language.

As expected the phone is relatively bloat-free and frame rates are remarkably consistent, unlike the Nexus 5X. The frame rates were observed with GPU Rendering Profile turned on in Developer Options, mostly during Internet browsing via built-in web browser. Note that the Nexus 5X feels just as snappy in everyday use despite the frame drops, except when its throttling gets bad. Improved animations in Marshmallow is due credit for that.

I have not installed any app yet, other than an update that greeted me upon the first boot. Talking about updates, Marshmallow has not made it to either this phone or my Galaxy S6 (SM-G920i), and both run 5.1.1. Samsung should speed up the update process..

The phone being bare bone, battery life from the first charge was excellent while surfing the web and watching YouTube videos. I've got over 8+ hours SOT on WiFi before I hooked it back to a charger. Once apps are loaded and accounts are sync'ed battery life should go down, but nonetheless it is more than satisfactory judged in the context of my experiences with recent flagship smartphones, all of which were handled similarly initially.

Along with the phone came the Galaxy Gear S2. My initial impression of it is decisively negative. The interface - rotating bezel - is cool but lag during operation is apparent, and the choice of UI colors (neon-y) are rather distasteful and bothersome to the eyes.

If anyone has practical questions or comparisons with the iPhone 6S+ that are not generally covered in reviews I will try to answer. And Apple Watch as well. I asked for neither but I haven't been able to get rid of them because they were gifts. Enough time has passed, though, and I think I can now part with the iPhone and Apple Watch, so I figured I would play them side-by-side with the new Galaxies.

P.S. #1 The S-View cover is absolutely terrible.
P.S. #2 SM-G928G works flawlessly on AT&T's LTE.
