New FX-55 Processor--Just Drop It In?

All:

I'm pretty sure I already know the answer to this, but I ordered the FX-55 939 from NewEgg to replace my Athlon 64 3200+ 939. Can I simply swap the processors out and let Windows detect the new processor? Or do I need to do a complete rebuild of my system?

Thanks for any assistance here!

Best Regards,

Just check your mainboard's website. It should list compatable cpus, or bios updates to cover the fx series.

If your BIOS settings for the CPU are at stock then you should have no problem at all just dropping it in. If you changed multipliers, voltages and the like then looking into your settings will probably be worth doing.

Thanks! Will Windows XP Pro choke on the new processor when it recognizes it, or should it load the drivers, etc. automatically?

Thanks,

Michael Tschirret
