It is in beta now, but it looks like it is going to remain free. The hope for return will be users wanting to upgrade for more functionality. It replaces Avid Free it looks like.

Interesting...I dont' do video, and I already have ProShow Gold for slideshows...it might be better tasked for that than this program.
