New forum proposed!

I propose a new "new system" or "new build" forum, so that the "General Hardware" forum isn't so trashed with such threads.

I'll second that, only if they create a Sound, Speakers, and Portable Audio (or similar) forum.
EDIT: Spelling

No, having too many forums ultimately lowers forum participation. Nobody wants to search through tonnes of forums, it's too much of a hassel.

Better yet. Why don't we have all the members go together into one thread on building new systems based off of current technology and have it stickied in General Hardware? Then someone who wanted the job could update per the requirements of the community.

Well, I have thoughts on this issue, and some others, but I don't want to be unpopular, so I won't share.
Thank you.

Trashed? Are you nuts? That is one of the things general hardware is for. You know what i am about getting sick of you noobs that join up here and automatically think you are gonna change everything. Why not try doing one of the things These forums were created for in the first place and try and help some of these people if you can rather than waste your time starting stupid threads.:disgust:

I think it should be like this:

Forum (subforums)...

Hardware (Motherboards, video, audio, CPU, Misc)
Software (Games, Windows, Other OS, Programming)
Off Topic

They should also ban anyone who currently has more than 10% of their posts in P&N since it started. 😉

or over 90% in OT? 😉

Anyway, the current layout makes sense, but if no one goes to half of them (peripherals, video etc) but posts in OT or GH instead, then some kind of reorganisation must be called for. A treelike structure as chaotic42 suggests might help guide more people to the right forum, rather than having them stop reading down when they get to GH...

Alternatively just reorder the forums, like I have been suggesting for about 2 years, to have GH/OT down near the bottom, and move Peripherals and Tech Support and some of the other "less used" ones up closer to the top.

That would be a simple thing to do, and would probably cut down the number of technical support questions in GH, and help to put the more specific things into the right category.

Confused

I say create one called Consumer eletronics

Digicams, TVs, home theater, general audio ...
Off-topic moves too fast for these threads.

Amen! Between OT and P&N, there are too many useless posts and wasted bandwidth. A true cesspool of faux intellect.

What's your banned name on ARS?

Dan.

Ceasar got tweaked when I offhandedly made fun of the fact they were charging for subscriptions and the forum was essentially down for weeks while they re-tooled. So he fired me. So now I'm a refugee, aimlessly wandering the corridors of cyber hell. Ehhh, just as well, it's unhealthy to spend too much time on a discussion forum while the RW continues to spin.

Ouch, sounds like your mod's are a lot more strict then ours.
