New forum for iPod hardware enthusiasts

Since I got a lot of interest from people who needed iPod help, I decided to buy a domain and in the process created another forum for the specific purpose of helping other people with their iPods. (Once again, this isn't to make money, it's just to help. Sort of like the ipodlounge forums except much more technical).

I just created the forum tonight and this will be the only post I make about it, but I just wanted to get the word out, because I plan on helping out a lot of people for at least two years (that's how long I own the domain for at the moment!).

Ok, the forums:

http://forum.ifixipodsfast.com

I also plan on creating free detailed guides on how to dismantle all kinds of iPods with high detail pictures and video showing the process on how to do specific things (like replacing a hard drive or lcd).

Feel free to contribute or ask questions, because that's what it's there for!

Thanks

Oh yes, before I forget... I NEED MODERATORS! I also need one more trusted person to be an admin who is familiar with phpbb. PM me if you're interested

That's cool... I'm pretty sure a lot of people don't use iPods. I just happen to know how to tear them apart so I figured I'd go with what I'm good at haha...

That and I just love hosting stuff on my own server out of my house.

It has to have a lot of specific topics as YoYoBabyYo is also saying.

The reason it's broken down so much is because there are so many different kinds of iPods. 3rd & 4th gen iPod parts don't mix and match (except for the hard drive) so when talking about parts and or how to work on the ipods there is a big difference on the technique involved.

That's possibly true, but you know how hard it is to get attention about a specific topic in general hardware. At least it's broken down so people who have some knowhow with a specific iPod can focus on those who post in that forum and help them quickly.

I don't know, it's a pipe dream but I'd like to have the thing really busy.

Eh how do you keep track of people if you don't have them register?

If I'm going to help you out I'd at least like you to participate.

I remember when I used to host top gear shows. I had 650 some users registered on my other forum and I just got done purging the user accounts that had 0 posts. 600 of them. People just abuse the system either way.

Eh those don't really have too many problems except for battery and hard drive (and the battery lasts quite a long time so you wont have to worry much about that one)...

I don't have an iPod, but I would like to help you with moderating these forums. I have some experience over at PGTour.net as the "head forum admin". I have experience with PHPBB and programing in general, aswell.

Already replaced the lcd and battery on my sisters 4th gen. Bought a non working one for $60 on ebay for parts. Plugged it into itunes and removed 2 corrupt files and it works like its brand new. Its always good to have a site where you can get this info and not have to google around for the bits and pieces. My boss wants to replace his 40gb harddrive with the new 80gb once it comes out (assuming the dimensions advertised are true)as he's got over 65gb of just music.

I believe the new hard drives that come out (such as an 80GB) will have a different connector. One like the iPod video's now (a zero insertion force "zif" connector).

I don't think they make adapters yet for them either. Hopefully someone does soon.
