New Forum Category: Welcome New Users

We should have another category where noobs can introduce themselves and established members can say hi back, with the occasionally witty remark. 😉

That way a dedicated area would have threads like this:

http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=38&threadid=1768853&enterthread=y
http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=38&threadid=1755756&enterthread=y
http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=38&threadid=1767826&enterthread=y
http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=38&threadid=1715993&enterthread=y
http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=38&threadid=1720996&enterthread=y
http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=38&threadid=1776026&enterthread=y
http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=38&threadid=1769629&enterthread=y

etc.

Right now, if someone says hi in Off Topic, a few things happen - the thread is quickly gone so most of us never see it, the new person is bashed until they break down in uncontrollable sobbing, or the thread grows into a nef fest.

On this new category, I suggest adding several sticky topics important for new members. Most important, the basic forum rules. Secondly, a How-to, like using PM, what the member titles mean, who do you contact if you have problems, etc.. Third, the growing lexicon of acronyms. And whatever else a new member should read up on.

I think this would be great, because you could even have a welcoming committee, designated in your sig as Official Member of the ATOT Welcoming Crew.

That Forum already exists. We call it Off Topic. You may need add it to your viewed Forums. Check your profile for this option.

That is a matter of convenience. A noob forum is just practical!

I'll say that's a great idea to have an introduction board where new forum members can introduce themselves.
