New Ford Mustang Iacocca edition

lol, Iacocca always makes me think of Chrysler, but many forget his years at FoMoCo. Pricey but this could be a real collectible. Iacocca probably won't be with us much longer, the dude is 84. He seems to be a free and logical thinker, and I really would have a blast if hypothetically we could sit and talk over beers for a few hours. Aside from his failures, his success with the K-cars and the modern birth of the Minivan is testament to his good business sense. It's too bad Chrysler flushed it all down the toilet in the end. People love to hate on the K-cars, but really, there wasn't much else around in the early 80s that was really superior in the price range. Early-80s Hondas and Toyotas are about the only other decent options that come to mind.

Looks great but that price tag is a joke. Same old V8 and 5-speed manual too? Wow, exciting! It should at least have the 5l Coyote V8 even if that meant delaying it a bit.

I'm shocked, I tell you, to see a troll post by LOUISSSSSSSSSS!

Heh, while I agree that I'd certainly prefer a GT-R to this Mustang, judging by performance in missing the point of this. This is a collector's car, extremely limited run, and totally apples to oranges.

Heck, it's not even the newest (2010) design - looks like a the prior (05-09) version. And I've never much liked silver as a car color. As much as I'm a big Mustang fan, I'd definitely pass on this version, and get instead a Shelby, Roush, or some other tuner 'stang.

Ditto, and that's probably also because you *are* a Mustang fan.

Collector's cars such as this Iacocca edition are for people with a lot of $$ who don't mind putting it in an environmentally conditioned storage location and driving it very rarely. It says only 45 of these will be built, and they will probably sell out pretty rapidly. Probably only a handful will see any real miles or use put to them.

It's plug-ugly from the back, the badges look silly, the seats look silly, the wheels look too big for the body, and having "Iacocca" on the back is just awful, imo.

Coming from a Mustang enthusiast:

...pricing on the iconic, limited edition cars will start at $89,950.

Two Ford Racing power options are offered for the normally-aspirated 4.6-liter Ford V8 300hp ? *a Ford Racing 85 mm cold air kit with 320 horsepower or *an optional Ford Racing supercharger that delivers a head-snapping 400 horsepower. Both come with a factory Ford warranty. Drivers will harness the power through a quick-shifting 5-speed manual transmission.

Fail.

Don't get me wrong, I read the whole bit about the hand crafted, exotic materials, special builders, etc. I also understand it's limited edition. However, from a vehicle standpoint, it doesn't look like anything special on the outside and it doesn't seem to perform any better than a regular GT (with some optional addons). For $90k I want 550+ HP, a six speed, handstitched leather, Brembos, less weight, better aerodynamics, and Shelby's autograph on the dashboard. What's that? We can get Lee Iacocca's name stamped somewhere? Nah, I'd much rather have Carroll Shelby, thanks. 😛

Essentially, this is in / above Z06 territory price wise; it should perform similarly. I fully realize this car is about the class, the special edition, and the limited quantities, but the relative gap between the price and the performance you get is absolutely abysmal. Just make the specs more in line with the price range and I'll be happy. No one buying this car is actually going to make it break a sweat, but there's no need to cut so many corners in a limited edition car.

I would imagine these will be very nice collector pieces 20+ years from now, though. Especially considering Ford is doing very well for themselves in general.

F**k Shelby, the sellout like Lucas selling THX emblems to anybody willing to pony up money for the name plaque. Does Shelby even build or innovate cars anymore or just sell his name and endorse things? He's got his name all over the GT500 and had absolutely zero to do with the program.

I'd rather have a car built by John Coletti or someone who is an actual hands on car person or does it out of personal vendetta to raise the bar, not just a celebrity who sells his name and poses for a photo with a car someone else built in order to generate residual royalties.

Give me a Coletti style SVT with attitude, twice the performance, and half the price. You can keep Shelby's machine reproduced $20,000 autograph.

/rant at the limited production high markup designer fashion trend taking over the auto industry and ruining for the true enthusiasts, the little guys in their home garages.

That's why SVT used to be great in it's heyday. Any car like a Mustang being a high dollar investor only boutique vehicle is appalling and completely contradicts everything it ever stood for.

"If you can find a better car, buy it." 😉

I'm as big of a domestic fanboi as there is, but I don't see more than $5K of body work + $5K paint job + $2K wheels and tires over a GT plus engine mods. $89K? They sell plenty of collector stuff that I don't see the value in either. To each, their own.

I saw the movie, and it has some hawt babes, but the car is just a stang with a body kit. I did like the idea of the "fastback" allusion

you would have to be a complete moron to buy this car UNLESS you thought it would be a collectors car and appreciate in value over time.

Everything is a "collector edition" these days. I can't recall the last time I saw a PT Cruiser for example, that was not "Limited Edition".

Go go marketing psychology.

apples to oranges.

How many of each were actually produced? Limited <> collector

Also I doubt many are in the market of $90k cars here, saying that they are not qualified to comment on what'd they'd buy or not buy.

There are enough Mustang collectors in the world that I am sure many of these would be bought to never drive.

Only 'ricers' really think a car has to be the fastest to be worth the price point.

1.) This is hands down the best looking retro Mustang to date in my opinion. It's easily better looking than any of the other models we have been forced to keep track of since 2005.

2.) The performance is very respectable. I doubt anyone who intends on buying one of these will not option the supercharger. I think 400HP is the sweet spot for Mustangs in general.

3.) The price is ridiculous. If Ford intends on actually selling any of these they will have to significantly revalue the car. With the factory supercharger I can see this car being priced at $35k but not any higher. We shouldn't forger the 2003-2004 Cobras with the DOHC 4.6 (better than the SOHC 3-Valve by a mile) and a factory supercharger and independent rear suspension went for less.

The car is going to be pretty hand built and should reflect that in the fit and finish.

You won't find that in a $35k car, nor have a $35k car one those that collect cars would really care about.

I am willing to bet they will sell out even in this economy at more than MSRP.

LOL, "only ricers" think that? No...not at all...

Watched the vid again, I have to say, that's a very sexy design, only I'd adjust it:

1) re-do the lights, make them more how the 2010s are.
2) I <3 the very obvious fastback design, BUT, I'd add the extractor vents on there. I like how they were actually functional back in '67 and I'd love to see them again here.

i thought it looked great without them personally. its a sleek design to me, minimalist to the max. i liked the front end as well. id go for a real color instead of boring ass silver, but thats just me.

I agree. Hell, you could buy one of these for 90k, and then just totally re do it for another 20,000 bucks more! 😛

I'd paint it in Orange with silver stripes...or sky blue (so darker than baby blue, but still "shiny") with white stripes...oh man that would look hawt.

And speaking of vents, I noticed he does actually have the vents on there, but I doubt they're functional. I know my friend got a 2006 GT and he put on new vents, but they're just for show, non functional things. Although he did tell me you could hook them up to act as brake air ducts...kind of interesting.
