The current Edge Sport is over 40k already so I'd say that's pretty much guaranteed.

I really like the current Edge after spending a few weeks with them as rentals and it sounds like they fixed the one major issue (capacitive dash controls). The new Sport could be interesting is the mid range engine has approximately the power of the outgoing Sport.

What was the issue exactly? We had a 2010 and got a 2013 Sport a few years back. It's a fantastic vehicle...if you are talking about the "Sync" fiasco, it was blown a bit out of proportion IMO.

Poorly worded on my part, it's my one major issue with the vehicle, not an issue in the defect/recall sense.

IMO climate and audio controls should be physical - switches and buttons and knobs that I can control by muscle memory rather than a smooth, featureless panel. Perhaps with more time I'd have eventually acclimated to it and it wouldn't bother me but the combination of no physical controls and backlit icons that were (for me) unreadable without being <12" away from them made changing anything while driving nearly impossible.

I know my vision issues are unique to me but I really do think basic controls should be physical and I'm glad to see the new one returns to that. Other than that I am a big fan of the current one (well maybe its cost too).

I had considered getting an Edge a couple of years ago, and I like the new one.

Yeah, I am loving the rear end almost reminds of the range rover evoque and the the styling with the doors and front grille look very nice. Now, pricing is hopefully stays near the mid-upper 20s or else they start to push into luxury crossover territory.

They've never been near the mid-upper 20's. You are looking at the high 30's to low 40's.
A used one (2011) with 35,000+ miles will be going for the low to mid 20's.

This looks like Grand Cherokee, and I like it. Too bad the price is much than than I'd pay for a Ford SUV.

Wow I had no idea they were so expensive. Definitely not what I think a 35-45k SUV looks like. For that price I would rather look at a new used Q5.

It really depends on how stripped down it is. The trick to Ford pricing and others all comes from rebates. They offer the Edge at $28,100 base. You can get a 4Runner SR5 2WD at around $30k base. With even 1 or 2 packages added, the price jumps $4-8k.

If you tried to buy those on the used market with 35k miles, you'd pay over the MSRP of the base model unless they just want to move them. Ford Dealerships will actually run promotions to drop the price $5-8k when pressed for a sale....but won't pass any savings on the used car lot. The MSRP doesn't necessarily have to represent the sales price. If you order a car custom versus buying a unit on the lot, you're going to generally pay more. Negotiation comes from reducing inventory they already have.

I had a dealership sell me a unit they had on the lot. I wanted leather seats, so I had their shop install custom leather for $1500...instead of buying a $5k upgraded package that had other junk I didn't want. I ended up getting rebates to cover that cost and line my pockets with cash to pay the taxes off MSRP... On the used market, you just have to be assertive and know what the vehicles sell for everywhere else. Used car values are subject to a lot of markups.

I ended up getting an '11 Limited with leather, navigation, vista roof, tow package, etc for $21,000 out the door. Had 37,500 miles on it. Also got an additional 4 years bumper to bumper warranty tossed in on top of the 12 months for being a certified pre-owned. 0.9% through Ford credit as well.
Rather pleased with the price all things considered. Traded in my Pontiac Vibe for $10,500 so only had to finance $10,500 over the course of 36 months.
Vehicle was on the dealers lot for at least 31 days according to the carfax.

Sure they made their money on me, but I couldn't find anything under $26,000 nearby.

No way would I want to buy new. Just too damn expensive.

Nah, a year or two old Japanese car? Better off buying new.

I was at Carmax the other day. There was a 2014 Forester with 3k on the odo with a price of 30,999. I bought the same vehicle new on Sunday; same trim, similar options. $29.7 MSRP. (I paid less)

Granted, Carmax is a bad example but the price of year or two old Japanese car doesn't make them a better deal than new IMHO.

Does ford still cut corners on the cheapo plastic door locks and those ugly circa 70s/80s green diodes on their non LCD panel digital displays?

Hard plastics in random places sure to show early wear too? (although a lot of companies do this)

They do so much piddly super cheap cost cutting. It's so weird. If youre gonna charge 40k for a mid range SUV, why not just spend another $100 so you dont have all these super cheap odds and ends that marr the rest of the package?

Similar example - the dollar store clock in the middle of the Passat's dash. dafuq?

Everyone does this now. Even Honda uses hard plastics in some areas. As you said, the key is where they use the hard plastic. There are lots of places where it is perfectly acceptable.

No ugly green diods on my 2012 Focus or the 2011 Edge.
No issues with the door locks either.
Haven't noticed any out of place hard plastics either. Granted I've only had the Edge for about a month now. The Focus I have had for 2 years and haven't noticed out of place hard plastics.
Ford has really done a good job with refining their interiors. Mind you, these are the only two Ford's I have ever owned, but the interiors are much more refined than the GM cars I've had. I actually like them better than the '07 328xi I had.

My 2013 C-max is easily one of the most high quality vehicles I've sat in. Everything from the leather quality to the surface materials, to the placement and "quality" feeling of things like the the air vents is very impressive. It's very "German" in it's feeling. All black, doors close with a heavy thud and it's vault like quiet inside.

To address the question of ambient lighting, my Ford uses a red backlighting behind the door locks and window buttons. Most of other ambient lighting you can change to one of half a dozen different colors. I usually go with the red color because it matches the rest of the lights. But you could choose white, purple, green, blue or orange.

I had pretty much the same experience back when I bought my TL. The used ones were running only slightly less than a brand new one. $500-1000 more for the brand new one vs a couple year old one? No contest.
