New ForceWare for Oblivion

Interesting. I wonder how demanding Oblivion will be. I guess it will run just fine at high end systems, probably at least at the level of CoD2 or better. According to preliminary gameplay reports I'm familiar with, the game was smooth sailing on FX-55 with 7800 GT and 1 GB RAM in 1280*1024, (probably) with some AA and AF on and at max settings. Only in forests, with the dense vegetation around, it was choppy. Draw distance reduction for grass quickly fixed this issue though.

We'll see...

Very good. I'm glad, Nvidia are always very good with their drivers.
First the big FEAR boost with the 84.20's and now hopefully an Oblivian boost with these ones too.
I cant wait to these how these improve Oblivian gaming.

The current drivers (84.20/84.21's since their the same) have an Oblivion profile. Wonder what the new drivers are for?

yeah, too bad the game is released on the 20th. Some of us will just have to suffer a day or two... 😀

Suffer? c'mon thats drawing the line, if waiting a few days for a tiny boost in a videogame is a problem for you (aka suffering), then I don't even know what to say..

Gah, probably won't even have the initiative to install these new ones over the 84.20 XG drivers once I have the game... unless someone puts up some benchies that improve performance by 10% or more 🙂

Heh.

It's too bad the 84.21s drop OpenGL performance across the board by as much as 14% thanks to their Fear service pack characteristics. Who knows what this Oblivion service pack will do.

Ouch!! So now Nvidia rules fear and the HL2 engine games and ATI is going to own the OpenGL games.!?! The graphis world just turned upside down.

You sure about this?

Where did you get these figures?

I probably wouldn't go that far but it would be interesting to see reviewers test the 84.21s in a variety of older OpenGL games.

Where did you get these figures?
My own OpenGL tests comparing the 81.98s drivers to the 84.21s.

As a quick example my CoD performance went from 116 FPS to 100 FPS.

As far as I was aware COD is a direct X game and not OpenGL?

The first one was Open GL (Quake 3 engine). Part 2 is DX.

For those of us with Nvidia cards, new ForceWhere drivers will be released on Wednesday March 22nd at NZone.

Saw this somewhere else, though i should mention it.

Update:

ForceWare Release 80
Version: 84.25
Release Date: March 22, 2006
BETA Driver

They are for Windows XP/2000 32-bit but i don't see where it references Oblivion. I haven't installed them yet as i'm still waiting for the game.

And here's the link for NZone.

Well, here are the Release Notes (v84.25) and there is no mention for an update for Oblivion, only:
"The following are changes made and issues resolved since driver version 84.21:
? General compatibility fixes"

so unless anyone wants to try these beta drivers, it may be best to wait a bit more.

Nvidia specifically mentioned these are for Oblivion. They didnt state it in the driver notes but they usually dont. I didnt see anything about it in the .readme when the new fear drivers came out (unless I missed it). But yeah they already said these were for oblvion whether or not it states it in the readme. Downloading them now

Well, as I didn't use any driver set older than 84.20 on my 7900GT for the obvious reasons, I can't say whether or not there's been any slowdown in OGL performance. But I can say this for certain, Quake 4 doesn't phase my card in the least. And that's the latest and greatest OGL game I know of.

Yes I have Oblivion and will be doing some testing here shortly. I just un installed old drivers so about to install the new drivers here now. be back soon

True, however Fear is mentioned in these release notes for 84.20.
"Issues Resolved in Version 84.20
The following are changes made and issues resolved since driver version 84.12:
? Windows XP: Increased performance when playing F.E.A.R with
antialiasing enabled."

Yeah, like I said if it was in there I missed it. I swore it wasnt in there in the first release but maybe I just didnt see it or they just added into the release notes. Who knows? heh of well, sometimes they mention game specific optimizations, sometimes they dont. I just installed them, about to fire up Oblivion here in a few mins.
