New Folding ATI core has been released

This is the OpenCL core for ATI HD5xxx and up. From the very few posts I've seen with ppd, it seems to more than double with the new core. Good news for ATI folders!

Note that you will need to use the beta v7 client and set the client-type to advanced in the GPU slot.

how does this compare to some of the better nVidia GPU PPD's? i'm not a Folder myself, but i'm curious to know approximately how much the new Folding ATI core has closed the gap between ATI and nVidia crunching efficiency/performance.

The numbers I saw were 4.5 to 5k for 5750 & 10k for 5870, but no numbers for any 6xxx series cards. I haven't really kept up with the nvidia ppd but it is still higher.

Still, those are much better numbers than what they had in past years. Those figures are right up there with the nvidia 460SE cards. Impressive non the less. Kudos for them on getting ATi a new core and hopefully it brings up the numbers for the cause, if it hasn't already. Would like to see the stats on the 6xxx series soon......

does folding not require FP64 (a double-precision floating point GPU)? the reason i ask is b/c the 5870 is the fastest card in the review, beating out the 6970. the review points out that the reason for this is the sheer number of streaming processors of a given GPU...which makes sense, but only if FP64 is left out of the equation.

iirc folding doesnt use fp64, or else it wouldnt be running on the 6870 or 6850, AMD dropped fp64 on the barts core.

duh ...you're absolutely right. the fact that 68xx series cards were in the review should have been a dead giveaway. still, i'm glad it makes sense to me mathematically as well...
