new Firmware upgrade problem

When I try to flash the bios with the new firware utility in Win 98se and Win 2000(dual boot)
for the Ricoh MP9120A DVD/CDRW drive firmware 1.3 (current is 1.1)

It says "unable set the drive in Up Mode"

"please select tareget drive" . the firmware is not getting upgraded. I have not set the DVD region yet.

What does it mean and how to upgrade the firmware the problem?

Dave, thanks for your response i could really use some help here. I also need to flash the region free flash as well (that later).

No, nothing is connected to that ide channel. I use a Abit VP6 dual cpu motherboard with ide raid(not using raid config though).

So my ATA -100 hard drive is on a 80 pin cable as IDE 3 and the Ricoh MP9120A DVD/CDRW drive is on the seperate channel/cable as ide 1 as Master.

Does one assume this should be as slave ?
