New faucet leaking w/lame art

I don't have any pics, but basically I put in a new faucet and it's leaking. My old one looks like this looking down at it:

Notice near the faucet is 3 holes. I had to undo all three to remove it.

The new faucet came with a gasket, but only one hole (the middle) for which to tighten. So now, when I tighten it, the center gets tightened, but the edges get forced up and sort of bows, like so:

Which defeats the purpose of the gasket towards the sides.

How can I fix this? It only leaks when water gets behind or on top of the faucet, no where else.

I thought about it but was wondering if there was a hardware fix. I guess silicon would be better than the cheap gasket that came with the faucet.

Make sure you're not overtightening it which could cause that. You can also use a couple of washers on the top or bottom which might help the bowing.

I'm no expert (clearly),

but have you considered that it might just be incompatible if it can't fit to your 3 hole setup?

Yeah, it sounds like you got a super cheap faucet if it is bowing due to hand tightening a plastic nut.

Sounds like it is too tight. Note that most plumbing threads require some kind of thread seal tape, as the threads themselves don't form a lock (hence the reason for a gasket).

Try rearranging everything like this:

The directions probably covered this, but plumbers putty and/or silicone caulk. I've had to do a couple of those this year.

Ah, that is a nice faucet.

I'm not seeing how the escutcheon plate could bend unless you really torqued the nut too tight.

It also looks like the escutcheon plate was supposed to come with a gasket. Did you install the gasket?

Yea the gasket is installed under the plate. I'm really wondering if I just screwed it in too tight. I'll try loosening it to see if that helps, hoping I haven't bent it permanently.

Did the inner flange on the escutcheon get bent? That flange should keep the thing from bending.

On the bright side, the replacement escutcheon is only $45.00. 🙁
