Sorry, just a card of that caliber could easily give a mid-range gaming machine another year of life. Therefor its hardly a waste compaired to splurging $1200+ on a new system(that would still have to be SLI or Crossfire...or GX2, to give a worthy boost over it in most games).

Have any of you Americans who are interested in Gainward/Xpertvision/Palit (all the same company) cards actually tried ringing/emailing newegg/your parts supplier of choice and asking if they can source the cards? If there is enough interest I can see no earthly reason why newegg/whoever would not stock the cards.

so did gainward figure out a loophole in their contract with nvidia that allows them to put 7900GT cores into agp or what?

and is it cheaper just to buy an actual 7900GT and pci-e mobo (assuming you have a cpu that has pci-e motherboards, and if not, you should seriously upgrade that insteaed of your graphics)

My personal opinion is that with the Asrock Dual SATA II and cheap socket 939 cpus that are also extremely capable (3000+, 3200+) there is little point left in trying to extend the life of an older machine. With the Asrock board you can use your old AGP card until you can afford to purchase a PCI-e card.

Having said that if you are absolutely determined to keep your old system going and upgrade the graphics one last time, this is certainly the card to use.

Gainward tends to do pretty much what they want when it comes to designing their cards, which makes a refreshing change from bog standard reference design.

Of course this gives me to opportunity to pimp pics of my new card, so, I will 😀

If that didnt say Nvidia on the front I'd swear it was an ATI product....but nice looking card and what is that funky mounting on the back? Are those like spring loaded clips to hold the HSF down over the core?

Yeah, they are spring mounted clips. Gainward/Xpertvision/Palit cards are always red.

nvidia designs always look extremely clean to me, whereas matrox and ATi have little SMT components everywhere on the board by comparison. Different design philosopy I guess.
