I'm now using Intel Pentium D 840 and a $10 775 CPU fan, and the fan sounds like a jet engine
i used Athlon 64 2800 and a AM2 also $10 CPU fan, and i think that was pretty quiet
so.. should I buy a more expensive 775 CPU fan? or should I buy a new Core2 DUO CPU, the it's not so hot, thus reduces the noise?
Thanks.

LoL
One costs little, the other costs much!

It's like saying...
My tires are worn, should I buy new tires or get a new car.

BTW, Does your MB support a C2D CPU?

Hehe, he's right. The fan will cost, $20-30, the CPU will cost $150-$250.

Also, if you've been running an AMD system, and decide to change allegience, you'll be buying a new mobo to support it.

Pentium-D's, especialy the 8xx series run extremely hot. The question is, what do you use your computer for? If the pentium-d is already serving your purpose, just upgrade the fan to something that will control that heat monster, if your motherboard supports it, and you want an increase in performance, along with a decrease in heat, then get a C2D.

i'm a DIY rookie
the purpose for the computer..
well.. mostly net serving, listen to mp3, word processing, burn dvds, play games occationally
not really a gamer of OC person
mmm.. sounds like this Pentium D is enough for me?
any suggestion for a good quiet CPU fan?
thanks again~
