Last week we adopted a new puppy and her mother. A co-workers brother in a rural county had noticed this dog coming around for at least a year and in April when she came around she was pregnant and close to giving birth so he took her in. She ended up having 8 puppies so I was asked if we wanted one and we decided to take one of the pups and the mom as well as otherwise he would have had to surrender her to a shelter as he could not keep her. Once the puppies were weaned we picked up mom and the pup and immediately took them to a place where you can bath your dogs which is conveniently next door to our vet. The mom had a ton of ticks which was expected since she had been running loose outside for a long time. Of course they also both had worms but more upsetting the mom tested positive for heartworm so she will now have to undergo treatment for that starting June 27th once the preliminary antibiotic course is finished. She is also extremely underweight and at some point injured her right front leg and it didn't heal correctly. We have to keep them quarantined for 1 more week from our other dogs which is kind of sad. The mother is such a sweet tempered dog and so far has put up with everything without even a growl. We are pretty sure she has encountered some abuse in her travels and is much more wary of me than my wife. Here are a couple of pics, not the best but all I have for now.
