OK, updated the installer.

We now have a viewer bundled - i.e. on the menu, "display" should work. Hit F1-F6 to see different display modes.

The viewer SEVERELY slows the core when running, so after 30 seconds it drops to 1 FPS so you still get nearly full performance.

Updated DLLs.
And more...

Known bugs:
-----------------
On large proteins, the display can stop or be jerky.
The Name/Team is not displayed right in F3-F6 mode.
- both related to the core side I believe, and we're working on them.

Other then that, go find more bugs 🙂

There are also newer WU's available for the GPU2 client that more fully utilize higher end card's abilities. I'm pulling 2400PPD x2 (2 3870's) with a Q6600 @ 3.1ghz. I'm also running a SMP client on the remaining two cores for a total PPD of ~6000.

Hi,

Thanks for the update.

What happened to the old graphics version that supports x1000 series cards? I see the GPU 2 stuff only supports x2000 and x3000 cards.

I bought a x1950Pro specifically for folding (and gaming) but have had problems getting it going. Now with updates, they seem to have dropped support.

Any help?

Hmm, well it was still available for download until recently.
Has it stopped working for you?

I heard they were going to kill the X19xx client 🙁, but I didn't think it would be for some while yet?......

Seems its been killed 🙁

Updates to the Download page/GPU2 goes live
We've made several changes to the download page. First and foremost, we've tried to simplify it a bit for donors new to FAH by moving the high performance Windows downloads to their own page. The goal is to try to simplify the long list of possible clients new donors see. For those who are already experts at FAH, they will notice the high performance client link on the download page (although it may be nice to highlight that a bit more).

We have also updated the GPU client on the download page, with GPU client downloads pointing to GPU2 rather than GPU1. This is a major step forward for FAH, as we move to our second generation GPU client ("GPU2"). It's also an important time to note the contributions of the GPU1 client: we've been able to learn a great deal of running GPU's "in the wild," which is very different than in the lab, and what we've learned has gone into GPU2. GPU2 is much easier to run, more reliable scientifically, and has more advanced algorithms. Due to these differences, GPU1 has become obsolete. However, we are working to write a paper with what we've learned from GPU1 and acquiring data for that paper will need some more GPU1 cycles.

Thus, we will continue the GPU1 projects for a little while longer (likely a month or so), while we encourage people to transition to GPU2. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has run the GPU1 client and given us such useful data to advance to the second generation client. So far, the GPU2 client has become a success, with many more people running it than GPU1, in just two days. We are also working to improve the performance of GPU2 and one should expect to see core updates on a regular basis as we improve the software. Finally, we are also considering points modifications to make sure that the compensation is reasonable.

From F@H news

Their may still be some WUs for GPU1 it seems, anyone know?
If so it won't be for much longer.

i tried the GPU client for the 19XX series a couple weeks back to no avail- figured i wasn't doing something right

I wish this worked w/ Nvidia cards. When I upgrade video I will see whats out there that works with GPU2

Maybe the following, from here, should have gone in a new thread:

Stanford Pervasive Parallelism Lab (PPL)
On Friday, Stanford launched the Pervasive Parallelism Lab (PPL). There's been lots of press describing it. The general plan for the lab is to develop a common paradigm for programming new architectures like GPU's, the Cell processor, Intel's Larabee, as well as multi-core CPUs. This is something we at FAH are very interested in, as we have had to have a unique code path for each of these (i.e. a separate code for the high performance part of the ATI GPU, NVIDIA GPU, PS3, and SMP). Having a single code path for all would be very, very exciting to keep FAH code development onto new hardware going smoothly.
From reading the links, it looks like a client for NVIDIA might be a while though. But at least now they are putting money into it.

Nvidia to help sponsor Stanford parallel computing research lab
April 30, 2008
Nvidia Corp. said Wednesday it is a founding member of Stanford University's new Pervasive Parallelism Lab. [...]

The lab will develop new techniques, tools, and training materials "to allow software engineers to harness the parallelism of the multiple processors that are already available in virtually every new computer," Nvidia said.

For what it's worth, they expect to support the Radeon 4000 series when it comes out. One of the programmers (mhouston) said the architecture is similar enough that it'll be easy to add.

my biggest problem with the gpu1 client was that it bogged down my system and killed my seti output from my cpus. from reading this it appears that I might still be able to run seti on my cpus and fold on my 3870 now with less impact. I can definitely say that my system doesn't bog down (as mentioned in the other thread), but at least now it appears that I may not have to upgrade mom to pci-e for a while yet 😉

Nope🙁, you'd think they could still get some useful work out of them though! (via updated GPU1 clients).

I need them to support the X850XT. Most of the time, my X850XT is just idling there wasting my electricity.

I have a geforce mx 4000 pci video card... I really wish they supported that, too...I could probably get 5, maybe 6 ppd out of that sucker!😉

And maybe got 10pts from them 😉.

No chance!, their not fast enough, the X19xx range were about 2-4 times faster & they've been phased out for F@H 🙁. Pitty as my 2nd rig has an X800XT & my main rig an X1950 Pro.

If you read the FAQ about the original GPU client (if its still up) they mention that anything slower than the X19xx including Nvidias 7950 were just too slow to bother with (excluding Nvdia support issues 😛), so older cards weren't even considered, even when it was released 1-2(?)yrs ago.
