New External Hard Drive

I'm looking for a new external hard drive. FW 400 and/or 800. At least 500GB. My last one crapped out on me after only a year. Any ideas?

OWC sells pretty nice ones, the enclosures have every connector known to man, but they are costly. Firewire enclosures cost more than USB ones. Seagate makes a line of them though, so does Western Digital.

Sure is sexy as hell. No fan, so it's quieter than most, but not much sound dampening either. Seems to put itself to sleep well too. Can't complain.

Very hot!! Add this 750GB green WD, and you have a nice setup, at a nice price.

The G-Drive mini is the laptop sized drive and is bus-powered. Anything in that range that is also FW800 is very expensive, sadly. The only reason I go to G-Tech is because most of their drives are FW800x2, but that adds a premium to anything really 🙁

agreed. what gets me is that they discontinued the fw800 version, and thats why i bought my rosewill enclosure for $40, that had 2 fw800, 1 fw400, esata, and usb.
