New, expensive system... what components?

Alrighty, so it's finally time to upgrade the ol' 2100+ and GeForce4 Ti4200, and thanks to a kickass internship I'm not really low on funds. So I've decided to get an AMD FX-53 Socket 939 system, but am having a little trouble keeping up with some of the other components.

First off, as far as video cards go, I was thinking the Radeon X800 XT (as soon as it's available). It only requires one molex (and no 480watt P/S, which the GF6800 requires) and seems to have the raw power in terms of pumping out the frames. I'm pretty sure I'll be going with this unless someone has a brilliant reason why I should choose the nVidia 6800 (or 6850).

For audio, Audigy2. 'nuff said.

Now here's where I'm faltering a bit... I have not kept up with the motherboard or RAM scene at all lately and am not really sure what would go best with this sort of system.

I'm guessing the higher speed the RAM the better (PC3200?) in this case, but beyond that I'm not quite sure. Quantity wise, I was thinking ~2 gigabytes (in 4 x 512 sticks, otherwise it's way too expensive, even for me). Any suggestions on quantity / speed? And also, as far as brands go, I've had success with Crucial in the past, whereas I've seen friends with faulty Corsair. Any pointers (or specific parts, if you're bored) you could point me to are appreciated.

Finally, as far as motherboards go, I generally just buy something that another hardware guru friend recommends, but I haven't talked to him in months. What brand / model board do you suggest and with what features (4 memory slots preferrable, but could reduce to 3).

Thanks a ton for ANY help!

Well there are no 939 motherboards out yet, so you probably have to wait a month or so for them to come out.

Yes, the Radeon X800 XT Pro PE is the better choice.

If your going to overclock, then get PC3500 RAM or higher. If you don't overclock then PC3200 is perfect for you.

2 gigs of RAM?? are you nuts??

Not even the most demanding games will EVER need that much or even come close to it. There is no reason to waste your money. 1 gig is perfectly fine.

Well as for the Video Card i would definately hold off until the 6800Ultra is released. When the new Nvidia drivers come out it *should* massacre the X800XT. It already beats the X800PRO in most things and is usually on the heels of the X800XT. Also the Nvidia card is a new architecture and has many more features than the X800PRO.

For memory any of the top brands would do fine. 2 GIG is a bit much but hey if ya got the money go for it.

For athlon 64 go with as fast RAM as you can find because running asynchronous doesn't give it nearly as big of a performance hit.

Motherboard i would get an Nforce 3 250GB but the KT800 is awesome. The nvidi board does however get a decent performance increase when its an Nvidia chipset and Video Card.
