New exotic Ferrari

Well, I know what I am giving the fiancee for Christmas this year. Better start saving up!

Sweet merciful crap!

I know the Sultan of Brunei has several unique custom Ferraris (e.g., a 456 sedan and station wagon, as well as various one-off road cars with F1 drivetrains), but I haven't heard of many other people commissioning custom Ferraris like this. Good for him - I like it!

So, let's do the math...

As of 11:15 AM on Monday, March 27, 2006, there are 138,383 AT members. We need to raise $4,000,000. That's $28.91 per member.

You can opt to pay an extra $17 which buys you a lap on the famous Nürburgring in Germany.

I have my $46.00 ready. I get first dibs on the Ring lap!

It occurs to me that he might as well have started with an FXX drivetrain, if cost is literally no object. Might as well have your one-off supercar have 800+ bhp, rather than a "mere" 660! I guess it might be impossible to get an FXX into street-legal form, though.

If you got enough $$$, you can pay Ferrari to custom build a car for you?

YA RLY

yupp, the back story on that is that a royal family in Brunei (i think it was emirates) wanted a couple of 456s, except in wagon form and they had a large enough budget 🙂

It is a sweet looking car.

But it's design is going away from the ferrari look and into the lambo look.

What happened to tradition?

Maybe I just need to see more angles.

It was the Sultan of Brunei (actually in the South China Sea). For many years he was the world's richest man - the country gives (or used to give) him his weight in gold every year from oil revenue.

Apparently his brother talked him into buying warehouses full of the most exotic cars in the world. Ferrari, Lambo, Aston Martin, etc. used to pay mechanics to live in Brunei, exclusively to service his fleet (no idea if they still do; I seem to remember hearing he had slowed down his car-buying spree). Pininfarina used to make elaborate multimedia presentations just for him, pitching him on their latest stuff (at least a few of which were F1 drivetrains with ultra-racy-looking road bodies bolted on). He had at least one 456 sedan and the station wagon in that picture, both gorgeous IMO.

C&D had an article about him several years ago - they described that, at one point, he accumulated tons and tons of Bentley spares he didn't need (presumably worth several million dollars) - he put them on a tanker and dumped them into the sea. Weird wild stuff!

:disgust::shocked:

that is one ugly ass end.. the rest of the car is good, though i still dont like the majority of a car being in the back (passengers waaaay up front due to mid engine)
