Got this car about 6 weeks ago. Exhaust was insanely loud, longtubes, no cats, x-pipe and straight through mufflers all dual 3" and dumped before the rear axle. Also scraped easily on even small speed bumps or angled driveways.

Now sounds almost stock volume wise at idle/low Rpms and doesn't scrape on any normal bumps or driveways.

Big thanks to Roger's exhaust shop in Fontana, CA. Great work, pricing and install time.

Thats a really nice car dude, are you have fun with it? :p

Btw, any hp gain with the new setup or were you just trying to avoid Fix-it Tickets?

What exactly does a "haust shop" do? :p
Yea haha, should have got a - in their website.

Lot of fun, I'm sure I lost some power, will have to see next time there is a local dyno day around here. There was one the day I was dropping the car off, doh.
But yea definitely trying to avoid a ticket, think that was a big reason the guy was selling it. Got a smog ref ticket which really sucks in CA.
I just found out the other day they do mobile smog checkpoints here too, basically a dui checkpoint for your car wtf. Still need to avoid those.

Yea that's why I keep my stock exhaust on my car. In Cali having a modified exhaust is bad cus cops bust lots of people for them. I've gotten stopped by cops cus my exhaust stock is loud and has no mufflers and cops find it hard to believe that my car comes from the factory without a muffler until I show them the owner's manual.

In reality your car will probably run better now with that exhaust.

BTW-You need new rear tires.

Wtf, that's pretty Orwellian. I have not seen that down here in San Diego, but one of my friends got a fix-it ticket for taking the cats out of his Stang.

Yet another friend takes his Mustang GT, installs a Steeda cold air kit, takes out the cats, mufflers, and "chips it," claims 370 hp dyno tuned.

And yet his car is an automatic.

Have Steeda exhaust that is pretty loud, but I shift at lower RPM when cops are around. When they catch sight of me, they tail a lot. But I haven't been stopped yet, guess cops around here are kept busy by all the retarded teenagers swerving on the 5 in their VW GTIs.

I had a Mustang GT with Flowmaster exhaust and Motorsport shorty headers (not CARB legal). Never had any trouble passing smog or hassled by the cops. It wasn't too loud but it was noticeably louder than stock. Why people completely remove the cats is beyond me. You can get high flow cats for most performance cars and removing them will usually cause a CEL for which you will certainly fail a smog check.

The rolling smog checkpoints are just vans they park beside freeway entrance ramps that have equipment to sniff for excess emissions. It's not an actual stop and check your car thing. They just sniff as you drive by and I think I've noticed them 3-4 times in the 20 years I've lived here...it's not like they're setting up checkpoints all over town and hassling people (although, they might do this in areas where street racing is a problem-I've never seen it if they do). Still, a cop can stop and inspect your car if he thinks you may have illegal "performance" parts installed.

Believe me, there is no shortage of high performance cars in California. You just have to do a little research before you start modding your car to make sure you aren't going to become a target for the law. Keep it legal and you can still do quite a bit to bump the performance of your car.

Thing is though, the CARB sucks balls. It's one thing to remove the cats, I can understand why that is illegal, but there is all sorts of State government red tape surrounding performance parts including Cold air intakes.

It shouldn't matter what performance parts you have installed if you pass the Smog test--anything more is just interference with your hobbies and preferences, and it isn't the job of government to do that. Sure, I can understand why a government agency exists to keep air clean. I applaud its efforts doing such. But anything more than that is just bullying and annoying.

I totally agree. Trouble is the state makes it difficult and costly to get new parts certified so many manufacturers don't bother with it and because of that their parts are not legal for use in CA. Like I said, I had a pair of Ford Motorsport headers on my car that weren't legal but my car passed smog and the shop I went to either didn't notice or didn't care...that was with the dyno testing they do today too. Funny, because the legal MAC headers that were on the car when I bought it always leaked but the illegal headers made my car run better and pollute less.

Precisely Jules, the state makes it difficult because the state gov is too big. These bums have nothing else to do but tamper with ordinary people's lives, whom they certainly hold in contempt or they would have buggered off a long time ago.

Do you know how many California environment agencies there are? At least Six. SIX! And at least one of them sits on its ass and infringes upon ordinary Americans from exercising their rights, while the members of the CARB Board drive around in limos and Mercedes...

Well, there's an old saying that you can't fight city hall. It's just part of the price we pay to live in paradise. ;)

What are you gonna do? Move to some shitty state with bad weather and bugs the size of cats just so that you can modify your car? Seems like a dumb solution to a relatively minor annoyance.

Actually that's not true. They actually do setup mobile smog checks with rollers, sniffers and the whole bit. I'm not sure what the actual penalties are but its more than a letter asking you to comply.

But, its all about being smart. I haven't had a smog legal car in at least 7 years. I do just enough to pass the tests and haven't had any cop trouble.

EDIT: More people need to leave this state. Its great EXCEPT for all the people that complain about how it sucks. If it sucks so much, LEAVE!

So, OP, what did you have them do? Hopefully you kept the LT's, added cats and 3" mandrel bent tubing? What mufflers? It looks nice!

Just stepped the tubing down to 2.5" coming off the longtubes. Ran that up and over the axle, 3" is too large to do that easily, before the exhaust was just dumped in the middle of the car. Still no cats, was trying to keep the cost down. Whole job with parts was under $500.

And yea will be ordering more street slicks this week. They work amazingly better than the tires on my z28. I can spin the camaro's street tires all through first gear, and they are 10mm wider at 285, and ~ 100 less rwhp. Firebird just hooks and goes.

I should quantify that. I'd never live anywhere else in the United States.

I simply think that California is the most beautiful state in the country. It has mountains, beaches, desert, and great weather year round. I just love it here...and I've been here for 20 years of my adult life so I think I would have a pretty good idea of what life is like here.

It's been dyno tuned already at a lsx shop. I bought it already quite modified. Has a cam, long tubes, lowering springs, subframe connectors, bigger fuel pump, air/fuel and fuel pressure gauges on the pillar, short shifter and other stuff I forget. Said it put down 417rwhp/416rwtq.
