new eVGA box design hints at new top-tier 8800 model coming soon?

GT model eVGA cards come in a bronze box
new GTS models (like the SSC) come in a silver box
expect a new higher-level model (GTX?) to announce soon and come in a gold box

How do you know this please ?

Uh go to their website and be observant. Then deduce that since there are bronze and silver boxes for the tier three and tier two respectively, we can logically conclude there will be a tier one product in a gold box. This isn't rocket science you know.

thats a stupid assumption. one could say that the silver box is really platinum colored, and your whole premise breaks down.

id love for you to be right though.

It's not a stupid assumption at all, that's why I stated it publicly. It's a logical assumption based on historic use of those metals/colors. Whether or not they come through with a gold-boxed top-tier card remains to be seen, but it has no impact on the logicality of the assumption.

It's not a stupid assumption at all. It does however depend on EVGA's intent... It's possible that they want to still be able to sell G80 based cards, so they package the G92 based 8800GT in a bronze box, and the G80 based 8800GTS SSC (which is slower than the 8800GT) in a silver box.

It could also just be...

bronze = 8800gt
silver = 8800gts [g80 with 112 shaders (aka 96+)]
gold = 8800gts [g92 with 128 shaders]

Yeah, it could really be any number of things. The main problem is that we're trying to apply logic to the actions of a marketing team.

Yeah it is safe to assume, and obvious, that a faster card will come out at some point next year.

Actually a card faster than the 8800gt will come out this year. Just how much faster is unknown, but there will be a better card than the 8800gt before the year's end.

LOL!! 😀 :thumbsup:

Hmm... Makes sense to me. 🙂

My theory is that since the new GTS will have all 128 SPs enabled and will probably be running at higher reference clocks than the present GTX, the new high-end card will feature dual G92s like the old GX2s in order to deal with games like Crysis.

Just an educated guess. 😉

Makes sense. perhaps though, platinum will be after gold? perhaps GTX 640 gold, than GTX as platinum? Good observation though...

but what comes after platinum? bronze > silver > gold > platinum > diamond?
(the diamonds refers to how games like nwn with lots of expansions go about their naming scheme)

Logical assumption, ofcourse, they were gonna eventually release a better card anyways, so its a SAFE assumption too, even if just by coincidence.

Another change in box design, of course. =)

This requires a PhD in marketing.

I do not approve of your message bc it makes me feel stupid. Plz stop. I never did like rocket scientists.
