Ok here's my problem. I have just finished building my system. I checked for compatibility for every part in it. The last part I bought was a Seagate 120GB hard drive and Windows XP Home. After putting the drive jumper set to master because it's the only one on the computer, putting in the OS disc and restarting, the install process stops at the message "Setup Is Starting Windows"....I have no idea on what to do. I've tried also using the seagate start disc and everything. I have another pc that is a bit older but can handle two drives, do I or should I partition the drive from there and than put it in the other system and install XP? HELP!!!!!

So you just biult this machine and you have never used it yet?
if so:
try changing the jumper setting to "CS (cable select) and make sure that your bios is set to "Boot from CD".

You may be running into the trouble of using an "Upgrade Disc" rather than a full install disc, and XP is not detecting a previous installment of XP on that HDD.

I hope some of this helps, or at least gives you some ideas as to what to do.
good luck

Ok, new problem same stuff. Here's the steps that I took for the new hard drive (Seagate 120GB), I hooked it up to my old dell system (Optiplex GX200) as a slave or cable select. I went into disk management and partitioned the new hard drive and formatted it as well with NTFS. I stuck in the full version of XP Home and started the install process after it stated that it was installing, the screen went to black with an _ blipping. I figured it was still installing but I didn't hear the cd spinning, so it froze and keeps freezing on me. So what now? I want XP home to be the OS that I use on my new computer. How do I complete this task?

Also here are the spece for the new system:

ECS PT800CE-A MOBO
Pentium 4 2.4GHz processor
512MB Kingston PC-2700 184 Pin DDR memory
Seagate ST3120814A 120GB 7200RPM 8MB Cache Ultra ATA/100 Hard drive
Nvidia BFG 6200LE 256MB Graphics Card
Sony Dual Layer DVD Burner
Microsoft Windows XP Home (Full)

whoa. start buy putting the hard drive back in the system you want to build.

If you look at the cable there are three possible situations
One Device
CS-at the end of the cable (CS is not used for "any old connection" just this one)

Two Devices
MASTER-two devices, the one at the end is the MASTER, You cannot be the master if you're all by yourself
SLAVE-two devices, the one in the middle is the SLAVE.

Get back to that point and you should be able to get the installer running again. If you cant get the windows installer going, then enter CMOS and check the BOOT order.

I ran into this problem last week while installing Windows Server. clearing the CMOS with the special jumper on your mother board may fix it. (read your manual for CLEAR instructions)
