New Epson 880 (from the Dell deal) trouble!!! SOLVED. Thanks all

Before firing an email off to Epson, I thought I would ask the Anandtech community if anyone has had any problems with the Epson 880 printers? I purchased one from the Dell deal (Hot Deals forum) and got around to hooking it up today, but can't get it to print in color. After cleaning the print head about 8 times, it finally printed a faint (and I mean faint) amount of red (more pink than red) for one of the test pages. My black cartridge shows well below half now after all the cleaning and I still can't print color. I've reseated the color cartridge (it does have ink as I now have it on my finger tips) but still didn't work.

Anyone have a tip or an idea, otherwise back to Epson or Dell for a replacement?!?

(P.S. I don't have an extra color cart. right now, and I really don't want to buy one just to test as I think this should have worked out of the box).

(P.S. #2 I've tried Win2000 and Win98 and both parallel and USB and still the same problem. )

Thanks in advance

Sorry to say so, but just get another cartridge. Send the one you got with the printer back for replacement afterward. There are many high-quality 3rd party Epson replacement cartridge places that sell perfectly usable cartridges, for as low as $15.00 or so. You're going to need another cartridge at some point, anyway, so ??? Sending the whole printer back at this point is like throwing the baby out with the bathwater, in my opinion.

I have an Epson 860, by the way, virtually the same machine. I use aftermarket cartridges in mine.

Here's a link that sells them for $12.95:

From their website:

We offer brand-new compatible ink cartridges for most of Epson inkjet cartridges. We do not carry refill kits for Epson printers due to the risk to damage printers.

New printer arrived and both the Black and Color worked correctly right out of the box...didn't even reinstall the drivers. Replacing the carts. in the other printer didn't make sense since it was new and both carts. had plenty of ink...I know...it went all my hands..doh!...

New printer installed the same way printed both black (which was very streaky on other) and color correctly.

Thanks all. 🙂
