from yahoo:

NEW YORK (Ticker) - NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has fined New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick $500,000 for violating league policy last Sunday on the use of equipment to videotape an opposing team's offensive or defensive signals.

on espn main page:

Belichick Fined; Pats Lose Pick

Bill Belichick was hit with a $500,000 fine Thursday night -- the maximum allowable by NFL by-laws -- for violating the league's policy on videotaping the Jets defensive signs Sunday. In addition, Roger Goodell notified the Patriots that they would forfeit a 2008 first-round draft choice if they reach the playoffs, or second- and third-round picks if they do not qualify for the playoffs. The club was also fined $250,000.

Dam, thats was steeper penatly than I thought would be handed down. The commish is laying down the smack on players and ownership/management. I approve though, he wants to get the message out and stop everyone else from screwing around anymore.

Doesn't seem all that harsh to me, and I don't think it will stop this type of espionage. If you want to stop it, give the captain a radio in his helmet like the offense gets.

Good job NFL... Hit him with the max fine allowable...

But I wonder... How much of that will Bill actually pay? Im sure some of it will be paid by NE... Some how...

Speaking of fines for illegal spying...

"FIA fines McLaren $100 million in Ferrari spy case"

Now THAT IS A FINE!!!!

If they really wanted to get the point across, they should have just made the Pats forfeit the game.

So apparently Denver can screw with the Salary Cap and only lose a 3rd rounder, but this qualifies as a loss of a 1st round pick?

Don't worry, you're gonna get caught again once they start watching what you're doing to the comm frequencies.

The Jets Playbook needs to be found in Belichick 's home to warrant a fine like that...

No kidding, $100 million is about 1/4 of their annual budget in Formula One.

Not a real big deal. After winning the Super Bowl, the last pick in the first round isn't a big loss.
