It's just a little smoke.

We have that crap every year when the farmers in Mexico set their fields on fire in the spring. There are times when San Antonio's air quality is worse than New Dehli's or Beijing's from that agricultural burning, makes me mad as hell.

I live near Philadelphia, PA. Right now our air quality index is worse than NYC

Anyone wearing a mask when they go out? Cloth masks ok?
N95 and KN95 masks work well. We are about 3.5 years from the start of the pandemic. Everyone should have an N95 by now. I can't believe that people still have cloth masks for this type of purpose. Cloth masks do a small bit to help against fine particulates like wildfire smoke, but unless they have an inner filter won't do too much.

Or build a Corsi–Rosenthal Box with 4 filters:

Saved for later.... I have all the stuff to make a "tape-monster" variant of this right now !!! :p
(I love gorilla tape!)

Yeah but I already tried something like you suggested a while ago .... too much static-pressure to work well with that kind of fan.

The box should help quite a bit especially once the filter starts to clog with dust/smoke.

When the pandemic hit I was already ready to mask up. I'd made pre-pandemic orders for 3M N95's to deal with wild fire smoke here in California. I gave a few to people I knew then stopped doing that because I didn't want to run out of decent masks (yes I reuse them until they are obviously dirty or they aren't making a reliable seal). Around a year ago, maybe more, the prices came down and I scored real good deals on 3M N95's (my favorites, 9210+). I'm ready for a major wild fire season or any situations where covid transmission would seem to be an issue. I also have vented 3M N95's. I wear them bicycling, skating. It's just healthier and my sinuses feel way better, especially in cooler weather, not for covid protection. I don't care what people think.

Vented masks are the way to go now. If no one else cares about your germs, why should you care about giving them your germs? Plus, it isn't like breathing out allergens, smoke, etc is a problem with a vent.

I masked up today for the first time in awhile (stayed in yesterday) .... mask had some oily grey crap on it when I got back from my walk. (sorta like the diesel residue you get in NYC normally)

If I have to buy more masks I'll go with the vented kind but I still have a bunch of "regular" 3m N95's and somewhat more comfortable KN94's with ear-loops leftover from Covid.

I need to look at buying filters myself just to have them on hand. The smoke is not an issue now but it could be later. Would be interesting to get a pm 2.5 meter to track the levels when we do get smoke. I checked Amazon real quick but I can't really trust anything on there and reviews seem to be very mixed as far as accuracy goes.

Found this to be interesting

That is about what we will spend on the Military this year.

Still smells a little "smoky" outside but just before sunset I spotted some blue sky.... FAR better than it was!
Yeah we finally had some clouds today! The light on the ground was still orange tho, SUPER weird!

These fires are getting really scary now.... earth is looking a lot like a planet the freaking Enterprise arrives just in time to evacuate.

Air is a lot better today in New Haven & the intermittent rain can only help .... but I bet this happens again. :(
