Clearer in Columbus.

Went outside a few minutes ago. Still smells like Canada burning.

The reddish purple is as bad as the rating goes for the air quality index. The rest of the US has had this for weeks and no ATOT thread and no news about it. Then suddenly New England gets it and there is an ATOT thread and the news was all over it.

NY / NJ here.

Yesterday was pretty bad when I first noticed it. I woke up this AM thinking it's gone now. Well I was busy working then I just went outside.

Holy cow, it's WORSE. I don't get bothered by bad air quality often, but I felt a nasty smokiness in my lungs in that short period of 10 seconds.

Went out last night to Manhattan for a date. I should have worn a mask. Apparently at 10pm NYC had the worst air quality of any metro area in the world, even beating New Delhi.

I have multiple appointments today, but will be wearing my N95.

The world is burning.

First they send us their cold air and now this. We need to build a wall.

We pay big money to live in CT so we expect everything to be perfect or we're asking for a manager.

Jersey Shore near Asbury Park and Belmar here. It’s pretty bad but not as bad as what NYC is getting.

Not New England. But we all are getting in on this gift.

That's because ONLY WE matter duh (!!) .... get with the program! ;)

(perfectly sensible reaction... you plebs in flyover-country can suffer in silence!)

Of course, I expected that from ATOT. But all the news organizations, all on the same day? And while I'm in fly-over country, even Seattle had it weeks ago. Fly over that country and you land in the ocean.

This being OT (not the bad place) I didn't feel the need to insert an /s .... but perhaps I was mistaken? ;)

Not saying I seriously think its right, just saying it's hardly a surprise considering the "golden rule".

EDIT: And a virtual swat on the snout with a wet noodle for posting a Fox "news" story/pic! :p (don't promote those liars in any way)

No problem at all. I'm just staying off topic of the main topic.

The midwest is ~20% of the US population, but I'd estimate ~2% of the news coverage.

Meanwhile, people in Seattle are posting memes like this. Wildfire/smoke season has rapidly become a thing we just kind of expect now.

I've actually been uncomfortably close to several big fires in the past so I've seen (substantially) worse smoke/air, but never on this scale.... you could drive for 10-15 minutes and be 95% out of it.

We've also had "smoke-conditions" on the entire east coast before but never this dense AND widespread at the same time.

Wife can't see two cars in front of her! I'm at home enjoying a bourbon and ATOT. I told her to go slow, and get here when she gets here.

Yeah, I think Portland even beat Seattle a couple years ago. I remember doing the old furnace filter/box fan trick and had to change it a couple times.
